BBC presenter Gary Lineker’s disdain for the Union Jack has reached a climax with Countess Bathurst.

After Lineker described flags as ‘little bits of cloth on a stick’, the chatelaine of Cirencester Park in Gloucestershire chided the brand ambassador of Walker’s crisps, saying: ‘I’ve tried really hard, but I can’t get excited about crisps. They’re just baked potato slices, right? Does it make me a bad person? No. But apparently, Gary Lineker, they make you a very rich person. You’ve said some crazy things in your time, boy.’

Pleas for royal party Kim Kardashian foiled by Palace

She may be reality TV royalty, but Kim Kardashian’s dream of taking part in the UK’s official platinum anniversary celebrations has been thwarted.

Because I hear Buckingham Palace officials have rejected her pleas to attend the Platinum Party at the Palace tomorrow.

Representatives for the star, 41 – who landed in the UK this week with her boyfriend, 28-year-old comedian Pete Davidson – asked for tickets. But Buckingham Palace turned down the American couple, as did publicists at the BBC, which will broadcast the show.

Kardashian is so determined to attend that a source tells me she’s trying to get tickets in a different way — and has even said she doesn’t mind if the tickets aren’t “VIP.”

Kim is rarely turned down to attend an event so this was quite surprising, especially as she doesn’t visit the UK very often. Kim and Pete love the royal family and really wanted to be a part of this special celebration.”

Queen, Diana Ross and Nile Rodgers perform at the event, while Sir David Attenborough and David Beckham make their appearance.

About 10,000 tickets were allocated through a public vote, and 7,500 were given to key figures, those in the armed forces, volunteers and charities.

Members of the Royal Family are expected to attend on behalf of the Queen, who will be watching “Icebert herself” on TV from Windsor Castle.

Earlier this week, Kardashian and Davidson were spotted dining at the River Cafe in west London and shopping in Mayfair. Kardashian’s representatives declined to comment.

Eugenie cheers for grandma at flypast

Prince Andrew may have been banned from the balcony, but that didn’t stop his daughter, Princess Eugenie, from celebrating her grandmother’s platinum anniversary.

The disgraced Prince’s youngest daughter, 32, waved to the skies from the roof of St James’s Palace, enjoying the breathtaking air passage of the RAF. She was accompanied by her husband Jack Brooksbank, 36, and their son August one.

Cultural Secretary Nadine Dorries came to the rescue of a hedgehog that landed in front of her door in the middle of the night.

“This little guy showed up looking for an ambulance to take him to the animal hospital,” Dorries reveals. The former nurse knew something was wrong and added: “I could hear his bubbling chest before I looked down and saw him.”

“The hedgehog is recovering well,” her office assures me, “and is being returned to the hedgehog sanctuary in her yard. He has been named ‘PJ’ in honor of the platinum anniversary.’

Sherlock star Martin Freeman has advice for actors with a chip on their shoulder.

‘I don’t think a profession should get a pass to be ap****, especially if you’re acting. You don’t cure cancer; you don’t work in a soup kitchen. If people treat you right and you can do the job you love – not to say there won’t be days when you want to tell people to mess around, and every once in a while I do – you can stay decent .’
