Elon Musk claims the FEMA ‘blockade’ is preventing him from delivering aid to Hurricane Helene victims
Elon Musk has lashed out at the Federal Emergency Management Agency for blocking SpaceX from delivering relief packages to hurricane-ravaged North Carolina.
The billionaire described FEMA’s actions as “unconscionable” in an angry statement to his social media platform X on Friday.
Entire towns in western North Carolina were washed away last week as Hurricane Helene tore through the region.
At least 222 people have died and hundreds more are missing in the United States as a result of the Category 4 storm. So far, 106 of the victims have been recorded in North Carolina.
“SpaceX engineers are currently attempting to deliver Starlink terminals and supplies to devastated areas in North Carolina,” Musk said.

FEMA and other emergency management whistleblowers allege the organization wasted money, withheld aid before the disaster and was slow to deploy first responders and service members to assist with recovery efforts
“FEMA is failing to help AND not allowing others to help. This is unconscionable!!
‘They made this video a few hours ago, where you can see the extent of the destruction: roads, houses, electricity, water supply and internet connections have been completely destroyed.
“FEMA wouldn’t let them land to deliver critical supplies… it makes my blood boil.”
TThe federal government’s emergency response agency has been painfully slow in deploying first responders to help Hurricane Helene victims and making matters worse, multiple whistleblowers told DailyMail.com.
One FEMA whistleblower revealed that the department did has wasted and embezzled money in the wake of Helene and is now “exacerbating the emergency.”
The letter also claims that “hundreds, if not thousands” of first responders and military personnel have been left “without deployment orders,” with some waiting in hotels while others have been “sitting idle,” as Americans in the Southeast remain in dire need.
Musk said it’s “not just SpaceX” that is being prevented from dropping donations.
“They don’t let anyone help,” he said.

Musk’s post was flooded with people saying it was “disgusting” that residents weren’t getting help.
“This is inexcusable,” one said.
FEMA has encouraged and promoted select volunteer organizations during the disaster response, urging anyone affected by the hurricane to contact the American Red Cross, which has “more than 850 trained disaster workers” on the ground.
Musk’s claim that FEMA would not allow his crews to deliver Starlinks came just a day after the organization revealed it had distributed “more than 60 Starlink units to multiple states in support of the response to Hurricane Helene.”
In a statement, FEMA said it included “40 units to North Carolina with more on the way,” and said they were “in the process of procuring additional units.”
“One of FEMA’s emergency communications tools is Starlink, a mobile unit that allows customers to get high-speed internet by connecting to satellites.
“FEMA has successfully deployed Starlink in previous disasters, including Guam, Hawaii and Alaska.
“Because the unit is portable and weighs less than 30 pounds, FEMA can deliver it to the areas that need it most, providing connectivity for more than 100 users.”
FEMA has more than 500 personnel on the ground in North Carolina alone and claims to have provided support to more than 2,100 survivors.

President Joe Biden brushed off critics of his hurricane response after returning from a trip amid storm damage — saying people affected by the storm were “very happy” with government assistance.
When asked about the storm, his first response was, “I think what storm are you talking about?”
The 81-year-old defended his government’s aid Thursday evening after a storm damage tour that took him to Florida and Georgia.
“They’re getting everything they need,” Biden said. “They are very happy across the board.”
Former President Donald Trump was one of the most vocal critics of the current administration for their response to the crisis.
“This is the worst response in the history of hurricanes,” Trump said Thursday in Michigan. “Kamala spent all her FEMA money – billions of dollars – on housing for illegal immigrants.”
