‘Emily in Paris’ Returns Tomorrow: Here Are 5 Key Things to Remember
Warning: This article recaps previous events on the show and contains spoilers. Season 4, Part 1 debuts on August 15.
Emily in Paris, the trendy, love triangle-oriented, and easy-to-digest comedy-drama series, has entered its fourth season on Netflix.
The story picks up after the Season 3 finale and Gabriel and Camille’s chaotic engagement party. (Have no idea what I’m talking about? I’ve included what you need to know below.) The season will catch up with Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), the social media maven and American still living in Paris.
Season 4 sees the return of Emily’s best friend, the talented singer Mindy (Ashley Park), her ever-confident boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), her mildly irritated love interest Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), and the charming chef and father-to-be Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).
Season 3 of Emily in Paris premieres in December 2022. If you need a refresher on the events you binged over a year and a half ago, grab an Instagrammable dessert and settle in with this recap. Netflix has released the first 5 minutes of Season 4 Part 1, and you can it here on the streamer’s Tudum site.

What to Remember for Season 4
In the first season of Emily in Paris, the title character moves from Chicago to Paris after her employer, the Gilbert Group, acquires the luxury marketing firm Savoir.
In Season 3, Emily struggles to decide between staying with her Gilbert Group mentor, Madeline, or joining Sylvie and her French colleagues, who leave Savoir in the Season 2 finale. She tries and fails to do both at once. Ultimately, Emily chooses to stay in Paris rather than return to Chicago with Madeline, and ends up at Agence Grateau with her old Savoir friends.
While Emily may have her work situation sorted out, a lot of things that happened in Season 3 have yet to be wrapped up in a ringard bow. Here are five essential details to remember before you stream Season 4, Part 1.
The Engagement Party Disaster
Season 3 was a turbulent one for Camille and Gabriel. They quickly went from a tense relationship — while Camille ignored Gabriel in Greece — to getting engaged to spontaneously deciding to get married at their engagement party. Camille also went to Greece because of the artist Sofia, with whom she is more than just friends.
During the final part of that dramatic series of events (the unplanned wedding), Camille told Gabriel that she couldn’t marry him because she knew he and Emily loved each other. She also told him about Emily’s pact with her not to date him. And yes, this all happened at the altar.
It’s no surprise that Emily’s boyfriend Alfie felt like second choice and turned his back on Emily.
In the trailer for season 4 part 1Emily says she’s single. Is the ambiguous ending a sign that she’ll stay that way this season?
A pregnancy shock
There was another twist at the end of the finale. During Gabriel and Emily’s private conversation, Gabriel told Emily that Camille was pregnant. She cut her trip to Greece short, not because of their relationship, but to tell him the big news.
In the trailer for Part 1, Emily mentions that she’s the only one who knows about the baby (she talks to Mindy, who of course also knows). Despite the Emily-Camille-Gabriel love triangle getting even more complicated, Emily still hasn’t said goodbye to the chef, so fans who want to see how Emily and Gabriel ultimately end up together have that reason to watch.
The Eurovision Song Contest
Season 3 introduced Nicolas of the JVMA conglomerate, a new love interest for Mindy outside of her boyfriend and bandmate Benoit. Emily pitched a song Benoit wrote for Mindy — Mon Soleil — to Nicolas as a potential track for a commercial, but Benoit had other plans for the song.
In the Season 3 finale, Benoit surprised Mindy — who he was no longer with — by revealing that he had secretly submitted the song to the Eurovision Song Contest. It was selected for the competition, which should lead to more musical performances from Mindy in Season 4. The finale also confirmed the lingering feelings between Mindy and Benoit, who look like they might kiss before Mindy gets a phone call from Nicolas.
Gabriel’s Michelin Star Dreams
In season 3, Gabriel set his sights on a Michelin star and had some success. He negotiated with Antoine and Antoine’s current CFO Alfie, who offered the hard-working chef a stake in the restaurant. Gabriel turned up the posh factor and changed the name of the restaurant from Chez Lavaux to L’Esprit de Gigi, after his grandmother Gigi.
In the finale, Emily’s colleague Luc contacted his ex-girlfriend, a Michelin inspector. In short, L’Esprit de Gigi impressed her and she discreetly told Luc that the restaurant was on its way to a Michelin star. Luc relayed the sentiment to pre-wedding disaster Emily and Gabriel, who were overjoyed.
Julien is fed up
Emily’s client-seeking began to irritate her colleague Julien in Season 3. After Emily hijacked one of his pitches in the season finale, he appeared to respond to an email offering him a job elsewhere. Julien has long been part of the Parisian marketing dream team, so it would be a shame to see him ditch Agence Grateau for a competitor.
