There are a lot of great robot vacuums on the market, and at first glance it might seem like they all look and do the same thing. With its latest iteration, however, Eufy is starting to push the boundaries. The new Eufy S1 Pro offers features I’ve never seen on any other robot vacuum before, from the way it cleans to the base station itself — this device has quickly become my go-to for tidying up my floors.
The basic functions of the vacuum are the same as many others. It picks up dust and dirt, has a self-moistening mop, there is a charging station to charge the vacuum, and it empties itself at the base stations. You know, the things that are becoming increasingly common with new robot vacuums. But it’s the way the Eufy Robot Vacuum Omni S1 Pro does it and how well it does its job that stands out to me.
Design and Hardware: 10-in-1 UniClean Station
When I first saw the Eufy Omni S1 Pro and its base station, it was clear that the brand placed an emphasis on design. Instead of a short, boxy look for the 10-in-1 UniClean Station, Eufy opted for a tall, cube-like design with curves throughout. The Omni S1 Pro looks unlike any other robot vacuum on the market, but in a good way.
From the top there is a full colour touchscreen to view the status of the station and vacuum, along with the ability to start the cleaning process from the screen. Everything you need is fully accessible from the top, meaning you don’t have to bend down to access things like the dirty water tank, clean water tank, cleaning solution or dust collection bag.
Besides looking good, the UniClean Station is highly functional. Perhaps the most impressive feature of the base station is the clean water reservoir. Once the UniClean Station is filled with clean tap water, it begins to sanitize the 3-liter tank by adding ozone. This process not only looks cool, but also removes up to 99.99% of E. coli and other bacteria, according to tests by TÜV Rheinland Laboratory. After the water is sterilized, a cleaning solution is added to it as the reservoir fills in the vacuum.
The UniClean Station is also where the vacuum cleaner repeatedly returns while cleaning floors. In the Eufy Clean app, you can specify how often the cleaner returns to the station to get fresh water and dispose of the dirty water. This helps ensure that your floors get the cleanest possible water and that you don’t throw anything dirty on them.
When the cleaning cycle is complete, the base unit removes all the dirty water and empties the dust bin. It then begins to wash and dry the mop roller with 131 degrees Fahrenheit (55 degrees Celsius) hot air.
Design & Hardware: Omni S1 Pro Robot Vacuum Cleaner
The vacuum itself is a somewhat rounded, boxy-looking device that lacks what has become a hallmark of most modern robot vacuums: the navigation and mapping puck on top of the device. With that gone, the vacuum has a sleek look and the slimmer profile means it can get under furniture to clean.
But don’t let the Omni S1 Pro’s lack of a top hat give the impression that it’s going to get lost and run over wires. The upgraded mapping sensors that make up the True Course Mapping feature do a great job. Instead of having to drive all the way around my house to get a bird’s-eye view of the course, the S1 Pro simply took a quick look at all available rooms and was done. The resulting map and navigation paths were spot-on, leading to efficient cleaning.
When it comes to cleaning, the combination of vacuuming and mopping was great. A simple but useful feature is the dual rotating side brushes. No matter which direction the vacuum goes, it can always get to the edges. But my favorite cleaning feature is the mop.
I’ve tested robot vacuums with vibrating and rotating mop pads, and the Eufy Omni S1 Pro has one I’ve never seen before: a roller mop. It reminds me of a paint roller, but it’s 11.4 inches long and presses down on the floor to clean fantastically. It lifts a half-inch to avoid carpets.
The brush spins almost three times per second to clean the floor. But the beauty of it is that it never gets dirty water on it. As the roller spins back into the vacuum, it is scraped and rinsed to remove the dirty stuff and replace it with clean water. This process and the solid 11.4 inch wide mopping action for this vacuum are the best I have ever experienced.
As for vacuuming performance, while we’re still testing it in our lab, I think the Omni S1 Pro does a good job on hard floors and mostly on carpets. However, there were times when I still had some pet hair specks left on the carpet after the machine was done cleaning. Where I’d give the mop a 10/10, I’d probably go with a 7.5/10 for vacuuming carpet for pet hair.
Should You Buy the Eufy Robot Vacuum Omni S1 Pro?
If you have a big budget and are looking for a robot vacuum and mop combo, then probably yes. For starters, this is a $1,500 machine. Secondly, the reason it’s probably a yes depends on your home. If you have a lot of hard floors, then 100% yes, then this is a great choice in robot vacuums. If you have a lot of carpets and pets, then this might not be the best option, as there are some excellent robot vacuums for pet owners.
Don’t get me wrong, the Omni S1 Pro does a good job with carpets. But with the mopping system as the star, the vacuum itself is just a little above average. As a package, this is a fantastic machine that proved excellent at keeping the floors of my county road home clean during my move. Great navigation and obstacle avoidance, great mopping action, excellent design, and more make this the best vacuum I’ve used to date.
