A former Arsenal star was imprisoned about a conspiracy to smuggle £ 600,000 in drugs in the UK.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested after the border officers seized two suitcases hemp On Stansted Airport.
The drugwhich weighed around 60 kg, had arrived via a flight from Bangkok in Thailand.
It is believed that he may have been the intermediary between drug gambles in the UK and suppliers in Thailand and was described as an “important role”.
Emmanuel-Thomas, 34, has now been imprisoned for four years after he had argued for fraudulent avoidance of the ban on the import of cannabis.
Judge Alexander Mills told him that he had a “substantial fall out of favor”.
He added: “It is because of your own actions, you will no longer be known as a professional football player.”
“You will be known as a criminal. A professional football player who threw it all away.”
Chelmsford Crown Court heard that the drugs were brought to the UK by Emmanuel-Thomas’ girlfriend Yasmin Piotrowska.
She had flown Business Class to Stanstead Airport with Rosie Rowland to carry the plot on 2 September.
Emmanuel-Thomas was linked to the discovery by numerous WhatsApp messages, speech notes and photos.
The court was told that it was “clear” that he had recruited the women, they had been cleared after officers of justice had not offered any evidence in their case.
He used his influenced as a professional football player to influence the two women – with them £ 2,500 plus a free holiday to Thailand.
After Piotrowska was stopped by border officials, Emmanuel-Thomas Rowland sent to tell her “remove everything from our chat if you can”.
The football player then traveled to Stratford, East London on 5 September and replaced his mobile.
He was fired by the Scottish club Greenock Morton After his arrest last year.
Emmanuel-Thomas is a former England Under-17 and Under-19 International.
He started his career at Arsenal before he played for various clubs – including Ipswich Town” Bristol CityQPR, Livingston and Aberdeen.
The peak signed a six -month contract with Greenock Morton in July.
David Philips, NCA Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Organized crime Groups make considerable profits through human trafficking and sales observed high -quality cannabis that is legally grown in the US, Canada and Thailand illegal in the UK.
“Organized criminals such as Emmanuel-Thomas can be very convincing and offer payment to couriers. But the risk of being caught is very high and it is simply not worth it.”
Emmanuel-Thomas is the newest Brit who is caught smuggling drugs.
