Ex-cop jailed after found guilty of 28 sex offenses and ‘rape campaign’

A ‘cruel’ and ‘manipulative’ former police officer who ‘systematically’ sexually assaulted two girls and a woman during a ‘rape campaign’ has been sentenced to 33 years in prison.

Former Royal Hong Kong police officer Ken Chik, 63, from Hull, was convicted of 28 offenses during a month-long trial in the city of Yorkshire.

The offenses related to his “campaign” include rape, attempted rape, assault, sexual activity with a child, causing sexual activity and cruelty to a child.

The repeated sexual exploitation of his traumatized victims gave them serious psychological problems and one girl wrote in her diary that she had “disgusting, painful, nauseating memories.”

Tracy Choi, 37, an “accomplice” woman who joined Chik in his “dominant” sexual assault, was also jailed for eight years.

Soheil Khan, the prosecutor, said it was a “rape campaign” by Chik and that the crimes were “often planned” by him and involved the “deliberate isolation of the victims”.

Chik had caused “emotional degradation and humiliation” and occasionally used physical violence.

“The complainants were told by him not to press charges,” Mr Khan said.

The two girls suffered ‘severe psychological damage’.

Judge Mark Bury said Chik “systematically” raped one of the girls and “humiliated” her.

“It involved significant manipulation, psychological coercion and instilling fear in her,” Judge Bury said.

“You have repeatedly created situations to abuse her.”

Choi was involved in several sex crimes.

Judge Bury told Chik, “It is clear to me that you are a cruel, domineering, angry, totally selfish man.”

Chik was “prone to violent mood swings” and “cynically exploited” his adult victim’s vulnerability to sex.

He said of her: ‘She was psychologically forced to a great extent. You cynically manipulated a young woman.

“Your offense is characterized by extreme levels of manipulation and humiliation.

“You went to great lengths to make sure you weren’t caught.”

Chik told the victims that if they told anyone what had happened, no one would believe them.

One of the girls had written in her diary, “Why didn’t I kill myself to end this suffering?”

She wanted to know when her ordeal would end, and Judge Bury said, “Today. This is the first day of the rest of their lives.’

Judge Bury told Choi, “You have been manipulated. I am convinced that you became involved in these crimes through psychological coercion and harassment.’

But the “significant sympathy” for her “evaporates” because she was “complicated” in rape and Chik “encouraged” and participated in what happened.

One of the girls said in a statement: “Physically and mentally I felt disgusted, dirty and ashamed.

“He was manipulative and controlling. Ken was addicted to power over vulnerable women and children.’

She had had “weekly traumatic flashbacks” and sometimes woke up “sweating.”

The girl added, “I am scarred inside and out by his actions.”

The other girl said, “You never forget this kind of trauma. It’s ingrained in my mind. There are many ways Ken has influenced me.”

The adult victim said she had lived with anxiety and struggled with depression.

She suffered from ‘nightmares about falling from a very dark and high place’ and did not feel safe.

She felt ‘worthless’, ashamed, ‘dirty and unclean’ because of rape.

Stephen Robinson, softening, said it was a “campaign of rape” for Chik and that there was “little one to say about it” for him. He denied all wrongdoing.

Chik suffered from health problems, including heart problems.

Julia Baggs, who represents Choi, said the defendant came to Britain from Hong Kong for education when she was 18, but was “illegal here” and could be deported.

“She knows she’s in for a long prison term,” said Miss Baggs.

“She was particularly prone to dominance, control and manipulation.”

Chik and Choi must register as sex offenders for life.

They were also given an indefinite restraining order regarding the girls.
