Former England boss Peter Taylor has made a stunning return to management with seven levels Minnows Canvey Island.

But Taylor is now back in the beautiful game after taking a deal with Non-League Canvey Island.

They play in the Isthmian League Premier Division and ended 17th under former boss Brad Wellmen.

He resigned last month after a period of four years at the helm.

And fans of Canvey Island will hope that Taylor’s experience will soon see them rise the ranks.

The former wing player is near the block several times and enjoyed a glittering gaming career with people like Crystal Palace And Tottenham.

Taylor, who also played four times England In 1976 then moved to management with Southend in 1993.

Later he enjoyed spells with Gillingham, Leicester and the U21s of England.

But the highlight of his career came in November 2000 when he was appointed to the introduction of England for a 1-0 defeat against Italy.

Taylor came in for fellow interim Howard Wilkinson, himself a short-term replacement for Kevin Keegan.

But Taylor’s time soon came to an end when the FA Sven-Goran Eriksson mentioned the first foreign coach of England.

Taylor then spent a while in Brighton, Hull and Crystal Palace, while also managing the young lions again.

But he became eight months later at the Bijl before Canvey Island finally came to call this week.
