Fadnavis not in line to head Home Ministry: Raut on accident involving BJP leader’s son’s car – Times of India
MUMBAI: MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday said Devendra Fadnavis was not eligible to head Maharashtra’s home ministry, an attack that came a day after the accident involving a luxury car belonging to the state BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule‘s son. Speaking to reporters here, Raw alleged that evidence in the case has been deleted and that as long as BJP leader Fadnavis remains the Home Minister, there will be no fair investigation into any case in the state.
Bawankule’s son Sanket’s Audi car collided with several vehicles in Nagpur’s Ramdaspeth area early on Monday morning, following which the driver and another occupant were arrested by the police.
The occupants of the luxury car were returning from a beer bar in Dharampeth district when the incident occurred, a police official said on Monday. The medical examination will include blood tests to detect alcohol.
“A case of reckless driving and other offences has been registered. No action has been taken so far against Sanket Bawankule and the other two occupants who allegedly escaped from the scene of the crime near Mankapur Bridge,” the official said.
Raut on Tuesday hit out at Fadnavis over the case. “As per our information, the son of BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule was allegedly drunk and seriously injured two persons in Nagpur. Surprisingly, his name was not mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) and the registration number of the car was removed after the accident,” he alleged.
If Devendra Fadnavis, who also hails from Nagpur, fails to head the home ministry effectively, he will not be considered for such a post, the Rajya Sabha member said.
“The car is registered in Bawankule’s name but all evidence has been removed,” Raut alleged. “As long as Fadnavis is the home minister and Rashmi Shukla is the director general of police, there will never be a fair investigation into any matter in the state,” he added.
According to an official of Nagpur police station in Sitabuldi, the Audi first collided with the car of complainant Jitendra Sonkamble and then with a moped at 1am on Monday, injuring two youths.
“The Audi car hit several other vehicles that were heading towards Mankapur. At T-Point, the vehicle hit a Polo car. The occupants chased the Audi and stopped it at Mankapur bridge. Two occupants, identified as driver Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwarwere stopped by the people in the Polo car,” he said.
After the incident, Chandrashekhar Bawankule admitted that the Audi car was registered in the name of his son Sanket.
“The police must conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the accident without any bias. Those found guilty must be charged and appropriate action taken against them. I have not spoken to any police official. The law must be equal for all,” the senior BJP leader said.
