Fans convinced AFL accidentally revealed 2024 Brownlow Medal winner in now-deleted post

AFL fans have been left in a frenzy on social media after it was claimed the Brownlow Medal winner was accidentally leaked in a now-deleted post.

A screenshot from the AFL store’s website shared on Twitter ahead of Code Night kicking off on Monday night shows an image of some surprising Collingwood Magpies memorabilia.

The item is tagged ‘Nick Daicos 2024 Brownlow medalist signed guernsey’.

Daicos are one of the heavy favourites to win this year’s Brownlow Medal, which is awarded to the best and fairest player in the AFL during the home and away season.

The photo has since been removed online, but not before it was spotted by observant fans and quickly went viral.

“I took a screenshot before they removed it,” one person wrote.

Fans were outraged that the 2024 winner was accidentally announced just hours before the official announcement.

“If that’s true and the AFL doesn’t announce the winner before the count, then the AFL can stop the Armaguard charade and just openly say they already know the result and are checking the votes before the night itself,” one person fumed.

Another pundit added: ‘Interesting that Daicos have just taken favouritism on Betfair for the Brownlow Medal after this tweet went around. Surely this is a mistake?’

Earlier in the day, Daicos and Carlton Blues superstar Patrick Cripps were tied for first place in AFL.com.au’s Brownlow Predictor at the time.

Cripps ($2.40) won the award in 2022 and has had an exceptional season for the Blues, level with Daicos on 33 points in the system.

Cripps was second in the standings after the first seven rounds with 13 points, one behind Sydney Swans star Isaac Heeney, who is not eligible for the award.

Brisbane Lions star Lachie Neale is also in contention for his third Brownlow.
