Farmers apprise Ambala SP about peaceful march plan in Delhi
AMBALA: Ahead of their scheduled foot march in Delhi in jathas (batches), farmers under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) (SKM NP) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) attended a meeting convened by Ambala Superintendent of Police (SP) on Monday and informed the police of their plan.
Requesting a meeting, Ambala SP Surinder Singh Bhoria called on SKM NP and KMM leaders to discuss and coordinate the march in Delhi to ensure that law and order is not disrupted in the district.
The farmers have made it clear to the police that they will not organize any opposition or protest during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Haryana and Chandigarh.
After attending the meeting, farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher said, “We have shared our detailed plan for the Delhi march with Ambala SP and cleared all their doubts and concerns. Our program will not create a law and order situation, and we will not cause traffic jams or roadblocks. We are not in favor of blocking the passage. We will march to Delhi peacefully and will not participate in any protest against the event of any minister or leader on the way. Our program is to march towards Delhi alone.”
“The SP said they would make efforts to get permission for our program from the Haryana and Delhi governments. Ambala SP has assured us that he will present our plan to the government at their meeting,” Pandher said.
“We believe that all the events that took place till today were due to misunderstandings with the governments of Haryana and Delhi. We expect that such a meeting will build trust between the farmers and the government and that is good,” said Pandher, adding that they expect an understanding with the government.
Pandher said their forums plan to cover 15 kilometers of jathas per day.
“Representatives of SKM NP and KMM were summoned in view of their call for the march in Delhi. We have found out details about their plan including the size of the meeting, route plan, etc. Such meetings will continue in the future as well. No decision has yet been made as to whether they can continue or not. If we are asked about the farmers’ plan, the details will be shared with the concerned authority,” said SP Ambala Surinder Singh Bhoria.
