A fascinating map has revealed the world’s most popular summer destinations for 2024, with London and Dubai jointly the most popular destinations in the world.

The map supplements the names of countries with the names of the places their residents most want to visit. The most popular summer destinations for each country were identified through an analysis of Google search data and keywords related to summer travel, including searches conducted in both English and each country’s native language.

London and Dubai each top the bucket lists of 10 countries. Norway, Iceland, Ireland and Spain are among those seeking the UK capital, while residents of Pakistan, Qatar and Mauritius are all hoping for a summer holiday in Dubai.

The research found that Cancun is the most popular international destination for Americans and Las Vegas is the most popular domestic destination.

Miami is the second most popular summer destination in the world and is the most popular choice for eight countries, including Guatemala, Panama and Peru.

In the study, by tech website CloudwardBarcelona ranks third, while six countries put the Catalan capital in first place, including Portugal, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

The next destination is Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, which is popular with five countries, including neighboring Paraguay and Uruguay.

Tokyo and Toronto share the voting power, with the two cities tied for fifth place with four votes each. Toronto tops the list ahead of Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, while the Japanese capital is tied for first place ahead of Thailand and Singapore.

In joint third place are Malaga, Paris, Rome and Singapore, each with three countries in the top spot.

Cancun, ranked first by both Canada and the US, and Lisbon, ranked first by both Switzerland and France, tied for seventh place with two votes each.

Other destinations featured in the ranking, each at the top of one country, include Athens, Bali, Cyprus, Florence, Hong Kong and Istanbul.

Residents of Kentucky, Colorado and Texas are hoping to vacation in the Mexican coastal city. Meanwhile, residents of New York, Tennessee and Florida are all looking to spend their summer vacations across the pond.

Vancouver Island comes in second with a total of three votes from Alaska, Oregon and Washington.

According to Cloudwards, this summer destination is located on Canada’s Pacific coast and offers “a mix of mountain scenery, beaches along the Fraser River Delta and vibrant city life.”

In a tie for third place are Tokyo and Bermuda, each topping two states’ wish lists. Connecticut and New Hampshire put Bermuda first, while California and Hawaii want to go further afield.

The survey also found that Americans like to travel internationally to Tulum, Singapore, Toronto, Machu Picchu, Florence and Istanbul in the summer. The vacation destinations ranked first in each of the states.

A third map shows the most popular domestic summer destinations for Americans.

Las Vegas takes first place, winning by an overwhelming 14 votes, while Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Idaho, Minnesota and Hawaii put the “neon city” in first place.

“In addition to casinos and gambling arenas, Las Vegas also has activities for kids, such as amusement parks, botanical gardens, aquariums and circuses,” Cloudwards said.

Boston and Chicago tie for second place, with votes from five states each. Chicago is first in Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana, while Boston is first in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

In third place is Denver, which ranks first in four states, including Nebraska and South Dakota.

Florida’s coastal destinations Panama City Beach and Miami tied for fourth place, each holding the top spot in three states. Panama City Beach tops for residents of Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia, while Miami tops for residents of New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts.

Seattle, Memphis, Washington DC and Myrtle Beach are tied for fifth place, all three being the most popular summer destinations for two states.

Other cities that made the ranking, with one vote each, include Philadelphia, Baltimore, Nashville, Houston, San Diego, Minneapolis, Dallas, Charlotte and Portland.
