Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj takes charge as DSP in Telangana
NEW DELHI: Indian cricket team player Mohammed Siraj officially took charge as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Telangana on Saturday.
Siraj took office at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana in the presence of Telangana DGP Jitender, along with other senior officials.
The Chief Minister of Telangana A Revanth Reddy announced a residential plot and government job for Siraj in July when the latter met him after India’s T20 World Cup victory in Barbados. Revanth Reddy congratulated Siraj “for showing his tremendous talent in international cricket”.

At a recent state meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted Siraj’s performance and his role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph. He said the Group I track offered to the international cricketer would give him immediate access to high positions such as Deputy Superintendent of Police if he decides to join the police force.
Despite Siraj not meeting the educational qualifications for the Group I position, the cabinet granted him exemption as part of their efforts to support and encourage athletes. “For a Group I job, the required educational qualification is a degree. Siraj has passed the 12th class, but we have given exemption to give him the Group I job,” the CM said.
Siraj was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh last month, where he took four wickets to help India complete a 2-0 clean sweep.
In 89 matches for India so far, Mohammed Siraj has taken 163 wickets at an average of 27.57. He made his international debut against New Zealand in Rajkot on November 4, 2017.
