‘Fear mongering by opposition parties can be stopped now’: Annamalai on NEET issue | India News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Amid alleged irregularities in the NEET 2024 examination, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president K Annamalai on Thursday alleged that it was a “local leak” that has been brought under control, adding that the “fear mongering” by opposition parties can now come to a halt.
“IIT Madras has done a study on the nature of the paper leak and they are very clear that it has been contained. It has not reached many people… High Council “A few days ago it was also said that the leak does not seem to be widespread… It is a very localised leak which is under control, the fear mongering by opposition parties can now come to a stop,” Annamalai told ANI.
On July 8, the Supreme Court held that there is no doubt that the May 5 NEET-UG was compromised by a leaked question paper. It asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to inform it of the steps taken to identify the candidates who benefited from the leaked question paper.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra also asked the NTA to provide information on the steps taken by it to identify the centres/cities where paper leaks occurred, the modalities followed to identify the beneficiaries of the leak and how the leak was spread.
The court held that the fact of paper leak in the NEET-UG examination cannot be denied and observed that it has to be established whether the leak was widespread or isolated before deciding to order a re-examination.
The Supreme Court was hearing a batch of petitions seeking cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 results and re-conduct of the exam, alleging paper leaks and malpractices in the conduct of the test.
The NEET-UG exam, scheduled for May 5, 2024, has been mired in controversy, with allegations of cheating and impersonation. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, has come under heavy criticism, leading to protests and legal action. The Union Health Ministry has postponed the NEET-PG exam 2024, with new dates to be announced soon.
The government has replaced the NTA chief and established a committee to evaluate and improve the NTA’s performance.
The NEET-UG examination, conducted by the NTA, is the admission route for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
The NEET-UG 2024 was held on May 5 across 4,750 centres with around 2.4 lakh candidates participating.
