Female jockey, aged 23, ‘flown to hospital’ with ‘critical injuries’ after horror race fall

Apprentice jockey Ivy Lam was taken to hospital on Monday afternoon after suffering a horrific racing accident at Gawler Racecourse in South Adelaide.
The 23-year-old jockey rode Jacob’s Gate in the 1500m Willow Grove Stud Handicap.
About 800 meters into the race her horse appeared to drop back through the field before Lam, who is from Hong Kong, was subsequently driven off.
Emergency services arrived on scene to find the rider.

According to Channel Nineparamedics stated that the rider was “treated for serious head injuries” and “flown to hospital.”
The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 PM local time, after which the race meeting was abandoned before the final race of the day.
