‘Fifth and final time’: Mamata invites protesting doctors again for talks to end RG Kar standoff – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The West Bengal government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has once again invited the protesting junior doctors to come and help break the deadlock between the medical professionals and the state administration.
The doctors have been invited to a meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Kalighat at 5 pm.
In an email to the young doctors, Chief Secretary Manoj Panth said: “This is the fifth and final time that we are approaching you for a meeting between the Honourable Prime Minister and your deputies. In line with our conversation the day before, we once again invite you to meet the Honourable Prime Minister at her residence in Kalighat for a discussion with an open mind.”
However, the state government has made it clear that the meeting will not be live streamed.
“We trust that common sense will prevail and as mutually agreed and as per your statement to the media the day before, there will be no live streaming or videography of the meeting as the matter is sub judice in the highest court of the land. Instead, minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both parties,” the email said.
The young doctors were protesting, demanding better security in government hospitals and dismissal of senior officials following the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier visited the protesting young doctors in a bid to break the deadlock at Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake, Kolkata, and assured them of taking necessary action against those found guilty.
