Find out what the Wetherspoons red signs mean
WETHERSPOONS pubs and restaurants are a household name in the country, offering customers cheap drinks, comfortable surroundings and familiar food.
But one customer got a big surprise when his dish arrived: it wasn’t the food he expected, but the red plate it was served on.
What do Wetherspoon’s red signs mean?
The mystery surrounding the red Wetherspoons signs has sparked a heated debate on Reddit, with many people wondering what they could mean.
Fortunately, a spokesperson for the chain has cleared up the mystery surrounding the tableware.
They told Fabulous: “Wetherspoon trialled a red sign for children’s meals in a small number of pubs, to ensure all children’s meals were served on a cold plate.
“Since then, the company has moved on and has just launched a melamine plate for the entire children’s menu, which matches the design of the children’s menu.
But there will still be supplies of the old red plates in circulation, until they break.
“There are no plans to deviate from the standard blue license plate in the near future.”
How did customers react to the red license plates?
When a Reddit user’s friend was unexpectedly served food on a red plate at a Wetherspoons pub, they went Reddit to share the surprise.
I post a photo with the caption: “My friend got a red plate in Wetherspoons.”
It turned out that they were not the only ones experiencing this.
Others also reported getting red license plates over the years, sparking a lively conversation on Reddit.
The discussion quickly turned into a mixture of amusement and intrigue.
One Redditor humorously suggested: “It’s like the Wetherspoons equivalent of a golden ticket.
“There are only five of these plates in circulation, and anyone who gets one will receive a free tour of the Wetherspoon factory and a lifetime supply of pub food and beer from countries outside the EU.”
Another user echoed this sentiment, saying, “Spoons and plates are always blue; I’ve never seen a red one.”
A third added: “I’ve never seen a red sign. Good for you.”
Even X, formerly Twitter, got attention, where users continued to discuss the elusive red license plate.
Someone tweeted: “So I went to Wetherspoons with my friend today before we left for India and got a red sign!?
“Has anyone else seen one yet?”
Another encouraged sharing, saying: “RT this photo of the elusive red Wetherspoons sign and your 2020 will be blessed with much happiness.”
A former Wetherspoons employee joined in the conversation and said he had never seen a red sign in his time at the company.
