A fire broke out under a bridge in Sydney’s Wentworth Park early this morning.
Firefighters were called to the bridge at Glebe in the Inner West at 6.40am on Monday morning after receiving reports that the fire was three times too cold.
About ten firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames shortly before 7:00 am.
Daily Mail Australia reports that there is a homeless camp under the bridge.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said sleepwear and personal belongings belonging to the homeless community were found at the scene.
Tram services to and from the west of the city on the L2 Dulwich Hill to Pyrmont line were temporarily suspended while firefighters battled the blaze.
A New South Wales Police spokesman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
“At approximately 6:45am today (Monday 2 September 2024), emergency services were called to Sydney’s Inner West following reports of a fire,” police said in a statement.

The hot weather and strong winds have led to a total burning ban in Sydney and the Illawarra, with the SES urging residents to be cautious about fires.
Residents have been asked to prune branches from trees and secure loose structures around homes, such as garden furniture and trampolines.
