Five of the best ME + EM dupes to look as good as Victoria Starmer
FROM Hollywood to royals, celebrities have fallen for expensive British brand ME + EM.
Here, Clemmie Fieldsend shows you how to recreate their look.
ME+EM has been the brand everyone’s talking about since Keir Starmer’s wife showed up in a red midi dress last week, which sold out two days later.
Victoria’s style is also called ‘soft power dressing’ and is modest, graceful and recognizable.
British luxury designer ME+EM is the brand of choice for healthcare workers. And she’s in good company, as the Princess of Wales is also a fan.
While the £275 red dress with white stitching saw a 300 percent increase in traffic to the brand’s website, the £295 white cropped bolero jacket Victoria wore on pageant night also sold out.
The occupational therapist was also spotted wearing the designer’s £325 green floral silk dress at Sandown Park Racecourse last weekend.
The label, which was founded in 2009 by Clare Hornby, is also a regular customer of royals Sophie Wessex and Zara Tindall, TV presenters Christine Lampard and Alex Jones and even Hollywood stars Margot Robbie, Katie Holmes and Lupita Nyong’o.
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner’s fashion choices have been attracting a lot of attention of late, and two of her recent picks — a £550 mint green trouser suit and a £227 orange cap-sleeved midi dress — also came from ME+EM.
That makes sense, because the brand’s target audience consists of busy, working women who are looking for clothing that meets the three F’s: flattering, functional and sustainable.
The brand says its ethos is: “intelligent style for intelligent women, now and forever”.
It’s a power dressing for women who don’t want to wear Margaret Thatcher-style suits.
What’s more, it’s the perfect label for the women of Labour, as brand owner Clare Hornby is married to marketing and PR boss Johnny Hornby, who previously worked on Tony Blair’s 2001 election campaign.
While it may not be suitable for the school run, Clare has found a formula that looks stylish, suits all figures and shows you mean business without being too flashy.
Unfortunately, the price tag is a barrier for many women wanting to recreate the look, with a plain white cardigan costing £45 and a leather jacket £650.
Here we find budget-friendly alternatives to ME+EM’s bestsellers.
