In the absolute Pannenveld that is Royal Ascot, sometimes the best way is to choose a jockey and stay with them.
Recent history shows that following that principle with Ryan Moore will not be too bad for you.
But with runners from Japan, America and almost every corner of the world, there will be some new names – and old – to get your head on the Berkshire number.
A lot of jockey bookings are now being added to the racecards, so it seems to be the perfect time.
Here I look at five of the most striking journeys prior to the five -day festival.
1 James McDonald
Look, we all know that at least Ryan Moore is the best jockey in this hemisphere.
But under that they are of the powerful opinion that McDonald, with 119 group 1 to his name, is the king.
Trainer Chris Waller even said that Macca will be remembered as ‘the greatest of all time’.
Well, to do that, he needs some Royal Ascot winners!
And he could simply break him for a number of journeys after the large spending Wathnan Racing operation.
James Doyle is Wathnan’s No1, but McDonald, together with Will Buick, will deputify.
And McDonald looks like he will ride the will of Underwriter in the Coventry and Aesterius in the King Charles III.
Away from that team, McDonald will ride on Carl Spackler, who is a 20-1 chance in the blockbuster Queen Anne, the first race on day one.
2 Warren Fentiman
This 5LB requirer – son of Journeyman Jockey Duran – drives out of his skin and follows the effort where he goes.
Still only 17 and with a ‘glowing reputation’, Fentiman is an interesting booking about the Ramazan by Richard Fahey in the Buckingham Palace Stakes.
If everything goes well and he gets into the field, the reimbursement of Fentiman will be useful for this intriguing handicap dropper.
Fentiman beat his old man in a race during the Chester May Festival and won the three -year -old dashboard at Epsom on Derby Weekend.
His red-hot form could also land him an ASCOT winner after he was booked for Gavin Cromwell’s brilliant my mate mozzie in the copper horse handicap on Tuesday.
3 Colin Keane
Juddmonte’s new NO1 has one of the best jobs in racing.
Keane is a six -time champion in Ireland, but may not be very familiar with British gamblers.
This week it could all change.
Under his large book by rides such as St James’s Palace Good Thing Field of Gold, Lockinge Winner Lead Artist in The Queen Anne and Babouche in the Commonwealth Cup.
4 FALEH BUGHENAIM
Praised as ‘the best jockey in Qatar’, Faleh will have a big ride for Wathnan in the Royal Hunt Cup on board Jeff Koons.
Faleh has only one win of 16 rides in Great -Britain in his career, but you can be sure that the Emir of Qatar, who owns Wathnan, will have drawn up a good for the top star of his country.
5 Christophe Soumillon
‘Super Sou’ has driven winners around the world – but it could be the Royal Hunt Cup where he will get his ascot this year.
The legendary rider has risen in the Greek order, a fascinating and slightly rashed five -year -old competition trained by Michael Bell.
The Greek order was owned by Juddmonte until last month when he changed owner for around £ 80,000.
He is currently 25-1 for the Cavalry of 30 Runner, but can get much shorter on the day.
