Geelong Recruit Smith was taken under fire on 3 May after contrasting the atmosphere of a full MCG in the victory of the Bulldogs in Port Adelaide earlier in the day.

While Smith played for more than 80,000 fans in the victory of his team over Collingwood, the collision of the Bulldogs with the Power contained fewer than 5,000 spectators because of current buildings in the Ballarat location.

“It’s nice …. I don’t get that at Ballarat,” Smith stated on Fox Footy na Geelong’s nail biting 13.12 (90) to 12.15 (87) Triumph.

Smith’s tongue in cheek commentary was not well received by fans of Western Bulldogs – and captain Marcus Bontempelli missed no chance to call his former teammate this week.

“It’s nice to know that we are still on Bailey’s thoughts,” Bontempelli told the seven network.

“You know, he still thinks about us … even with another team.”

However, Smith could come across a big problem with his attempt to get Ballarat locals aside again.

Victoria has strict laws around giving away alcohol, aimed at promotions that include alcohol for more than reduced price.

Guidelines of the Victorian Liquor Commission State ‘Care must be taken on promotions with free alcohol’, as ‘the cheaper the alcohol, the greater the incentive for customers to buy and consume excessive amounts’.

Daily Mail Australia has approached the comment committee.

In what will be one of the most expected matches of the AFL season, Smith will be against his old club on 22 May in Gmhba Stadium in Geelong.
