‘For the first time in Uttarakhand’s history…’: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on UCC, anti-cheating law at TOI Dialogues – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reiterated that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in the state soon. Speaking at the second edition of TOI Dialogues in Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister talked about the historic anti-cheating law and praised the people of the state for this policy.
“We will implement UCC soon. But the real credit for this goes to the people of Uttarakhand. Since the formation of the state, people have changed the government every 5 years. In 2022, we went to the people and said that we will make the same law for every individual in the state if they come to power. And people also made history by voting for the same government in a row. We have also continued the work to fulfill the expectations of the people,” he said.
About the anti-fraud law, Dhami said, “Our state is full of hardworking people. People give priority to their children’s education… But due to the nexus of the mafias who cheat, those who study hard are never selected. Earlier, only those who worked with these mafias, cheated with pen drives or leaked papers were selected. When youngsters informed me about this, I ordered an inquiry into these exams. The inquiry revealed several such cases in many vocational exams. Also, any decision was difficult — the entire system would be affected by cancelling the exams and some of these people had really worked hard and studied sincerely for the exam,” CM Dhami said.
“But to tackle a disease at its root, we have to make sacrifices,” he added.
“We have taken action and as a result, we now have more than 100 mafiosi behind bars. And this is not it. We have also studied other states in the country to make a law so that it is not repeated. And in the anti-cheating act that we have passed, the punishments include life imprisonment and confiscation of all his properties. As a result, the exams are now being conducted impartially. We have had more than 16,000 recruits and none of the cases have gone to court, no case of cheating has been registered,” he said.
Speaking about water resources management, Dhami thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the major Jamrani and Song dam projects.
On unemployment, CM Dhami said, “When I took oath as CM, I had decided on the same day that I would fill all the vacant posts in all the state departments. So we started a campaign where the anti-cheating act was made.”
“Since the government job opportunities are limited, our focus is mainly on self-employment,” he said. “We have recently invited more than 50 countries and requested them to invest in the state. But our government will give priority to those who care about the employment of our people,” CM Dhami said.
“A smart industrial city will soon be built on an area of 1,200 hectares in Khurpia. This is expected to create over 75,000 direct/indirect jobs,” Dhami said.
