Nothing in the Apple World has the impact of the annual iPhone launch, but the company annually WWDC Developer conference is coming in the neighborhood.
Last year the launch of the launch iOS 18Who brought a renewed control center, a new password app, in-depth adjustment of the home screen and much more. Nevertheless, iOS 18 also continued a worrying trend for Apple in terms of stability.
I have been using the iPhone for more than ten years, and although I love the direction of Apple with new functions, the stability of iOS makes me delivered. An increasing number of bugs and a more general sense of complexity goes against the reasons why I fell in love with iOS in the first place, and ultimately make the iPhone much less competitive.
It is said that Apple is launching a redesign of iOS 19 bee WWDC 2025Possibly shifting his branding ahead to iOS 26 to partially match the release year of the update. This is why I hope that the next software revision of the company is much more than just a redesign, and that Apple is rebuilt iOS with a focus on stability, not just aesthetics.
iOS no longer works just ‘normal’
The success of the iPhone in the past 18 years is undoubtedly due to the Apple approach of both hardware And software. Android telephones are generally known for better specifications, at least if one looks at the specifications on paper, but Apple has proven that software optimization is just as important.
The legendary founder Steve Jobs described the Apple ecosystem famous as “it just works”, but the stability of iOS 18 has continued a worrying trend that has that sentence. Many of the new hero functions were somewhat buggy at the launch, and crucial, if you have an old iPhone to the iPhone 16 -seriesThese bugs influenced the overall experience.
Mine iPhone 16 Freeze often and needs a restart, or I have to wait until it responds. This is not an insulated issue, because the same complaints are submitted by hundreds of users in communities such as Reddit. I have also noticed a significant battery drain on my iPhone 16, and switching on battery savings has an adverse impact on performance.
Then there are Apple photos and the universal aversion to the complete overhaul in iOS 18. It is rare that Apple customers do not like universally as an official Apple app, but the re -designed photos -app leaves much to be desired, especially when Google photos Is such a compelling alternative. Yes, there are ways to Take Apple photos more like the previous versionBut this experience is even more indicative of Apple’s software.
Software and hardware are no longer synchronous
The success of Apple’s products is generally attributed to the remarkable possibility of the company to integrate software and hardware into a seamless experience.
In recent years, however, the company’s ambitions have not been matched by the same level of success in software, which became clear with the launch of Apple Intelligence.
The A18 Pro processor in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is incredibly powerful and builds on the success of Apple’s M-Series Computing Chips. The cameras used in the iPhone can take great photos and the camera control function is surprisingly useful. But a year after Apple’s large AI debut, many of the marked functions that were noticed within a year are considerably delayed.
The stability of iOS 18 was only partially improved a year later, even though it is on the fifth major launch study. Conversely, the action button and the dynamic island are two rare hardware functions in which the software completes the hardware experience, which proves that Apple can still deliver a fascinating package.
A look at history suggests that iOS needs a rebuilding
Apple’s current software -challenges feel familiar to, and that is because we have seen this story before. To find the answer to his own problems, Apple does not have to look beyond the most important rival, Samsung.
I have rated telephones for almost 20 years, and although the only Samsung user interface is one of the best user experiences on Android at the moment, this was not always the case. Before the launch of one onion in 2018, Galaxyphones TouchWiz walked out, and although I was a fan of Samsung’s software at the time, I remember that I was in the different minority.
The biggest challenge for the Samsung software team at that time is also a warning story for Apple and other telephone makers.
TouchWiz was launched only two years after iOS and both platforms have undergone significant changes as smartphone users have evolved and new habits were formed. Pretend Microsoft has confronted with Windows, this usually leads to software that is constantly added and the experience will inevitably suffer.
The Vision Pro and Vision OS show that Apple can still build a phenomenal integrated experience.
The answer for Apple is the same approach that Samsung reduced in 2018: a complete rebuilding. One user interface has needed years to develop, and the removed large parts of the old experience in favor of the functions needed for current and future smartphone form factors, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
For Apple to successfully launch new hardware and software form factors, such as the rally iPhone fold, the company has to rebuild iOS from the ground, not only re -design the existing codebase.
The Vision Pro and Vision OS show that Apple can still build a phenomenal integrated experience – now it just has to do the same for the iPhone.
