Forget the Galaxy Z Fold 6 – Samsung’s first rollable phone could launch next year
Samsung has made foldable phones more mainstream than any other company, with its latest models – the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – among the best, most polished foldable phones to date. But next year, the company could shift its focus to a new type of phone – one that rolls.
This is according to a South Korean site The Elec (via NotebookCheck), which claims that Samsung is working on a phone with a 12.4-inch rollable display, with a rumored launch date of the second half of 2025.
The site also claims that it will have an under-display camera, so you’ll get an uninterrupted screen. That’s certainly believable, considering Samsung has already equipped a number of its phones with under-display cameras.
So, are we really getting a tablet-sized rollable phone from Samsung next year? It’s certainly possible. The technology for this already exists, as we’ve seen rollable concept phones in the past. It’s also a logical next step from foldable phones, which Samsung is arguably close to perfecting at this point.
The race to roll
Additionally, Huawei recently launched a tri-fold phone, a design that Samsung doesn’t yet offer, and which allows for a much larger display than a conventional foldable phone, in this case a 10.2-inch one. Since Samsung wasn’t the first to offer that design, it would make sense that the company would instead be the first with a commercially available rollable phone, with an even larger display.
On the other hand, we haven’t heard much about Samsung’s potential rollable phone yet. And it’s still a long way off until the second half of 2025, so we don’t expect to see it then, if it even comes at all.
If such a device does launch, it might do so alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which we still expect Samsung to launch given the company’s success with foldable phones. That could mean a July announcement, but that’s still speculation for now.
In the meantime, we’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy S25 line to launch sometime in January or later. So those are the big Samsung phones we have to look forward to.
