Former AFL star Mitch Robinson has slammed the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) after doping testers arrived at Rhys Mathieson’s parents’ home in the early hours of the morning.

Mathieson, a former Lions midfielder who was dropped from the squad last year, went viral after photos of his physical transformation circulated online.

The 27-year-old has clearly spent a lot of time in the gym this year to further strengthen his already strong body.

In an Instagram post that has been liked more than 5,000 times, he is seen playing football for QAFL club Wilston Grang Gorillas, looking like a completely different player to the one who took to the field in 2023.

Mathieson has since received an unexpected visit from ASADA at 5am – and his mate Robinson is not happy about it.

‘After Matho made such a huge fuss on social media this year for his win, the Barometer was coincidentally ‘randomly’ drug tested by ASADA (local football association)… To their shame it came out squeaky clean,’ Robinson posted on social media.

Robinson took aim at drug testers again during an episode of his podcast Rip Through It.

“F*** you ASADA. F*** you QAFL … don’t ring his parents’ doorbell. Five in the morning when Craigo (Mathieson’s father) is trying to get lucky,” Robinson said.

‘Something I’ve never seen in my entire life is targeted testing in the local football league.

“People don’t realize that you’re in the gym two hours a day, eating carbs and just eating tuna and rice.”

Mathieson went into detail about ASADA’s surprise morning visit.

“I’m confused,” he said.

‘Throughout my football career, with all my teammates that I’ve played with – I was there for eight years (at Brisbane) – they always talk about (the testers) coming to your house.

‘Never seen that before… you guys never do that.

‘So 5am, the buzzer rings at the front door. I don’t live in this residence anymore, my mother and father do.

Mathieson said his mother was a little scared of waking up at 5 a.m.

“My poor mother is thinking, ‘What the hell. Why are there two guys at our door at 5 in the morning?’ She’s starting to get a little worried, a little scared.

‘(She) sends the old boy over there, he’s wearing his underpants and has to put on his dressing gown.

He opens the door and says, “What do you want, boys?” … At this hour it’s dark and he can barely see anything.

“And they say, ‘Anti-doping.’ He just says, ‘No, not interested.’ And closes the door. So he thought it was an electric company trying to sell him something.

‘So then he went to get coffee and 30 minutes later they were still there. He said, ‘Seriously, what do you want?’

‘And then they said, this is anti-doping, we’re here to test Rhys Mathieson.’

Mathieson went on to say that he has not been tested throughout his career and is now the target of criticism because someone complained.

“I think they went about it very wrong,” he said.

‘And the one who complained can go to hell.’
