Former OBGYN revokes license after ‘pushing Jesus against woman having abortion’
A Los Angeles gynecologist has surrendered his medical license for allegedly pushing Jesus on a patient who was having an abortion.
Dr. Lucien Cox, 75, also came under fire for allegedly performing a rectal examination on another patient without her consent.
In the interest of “expeditious and expeditious resolution” of the charges against him, which included unprofessional conduct and gross negligence, Dr. Cox agreed to have his driver’s license revoked and his 35-year career came to an end on Tuesday.
In a Medical Board of California disciplinary filing obtained by DailyMail.com, a 63-year-old unnamed woman went to Dr. Cox for a routine exam and swab test.
When a medical assistant asked her about her history of pregnancy loss, the patient reported an elective abortion in 1987.
When Dr. Cox returned to the room, the patient suggested she felt uncomfortable when he questioned her about her abortion and then asked if she “had Jesus in her life.”
The record states that when the patient responded that she was not religious, Dr. Cox continued by asking if she wanted to “go to heaven and avoid the devil.”
The patient further alleged that Dr. Cox stated that “the devil rules that world” and that “I was just like you when I was young and I will teach you about Christianity.”

The patient reported that Dr. Cox continued this line of conversation for 15 minutes, during which time he encouraged the patient to attend his Bible study class, which offered advice to women “suffering from guilt” after an abortion.
When the medical assistant was called back to the room, the filing states that Dr. Cox proceeded to perform a pelvic exam on the patient.
However, she said the procedure was “extremely uncomfortable, much more than normal” and that she left the obstetrics office “abruptly” and did not respond to subsequent calls from Dr. Cox.
Less than a week later, she filed a formal complaint with the Medical Board of California.
While investigating her case, investigators discovered another complaint filed against Dr. Cox with the Los Angeles Police Department.
In October 2014, another female patient reported his “inappropriate and unprofessional” behavior during a gynecological exam.
The 42-year-old woman said she made an appointment with Dr Cox after experiencing ‘painful and heavy’ periods and bleeding in between.
An earlier ultrasound had also revealed fibroids.

The woman said she requested a female gynecologist and was disappointed to find out Dr. Cox was a man. “Nevertheless, she decided to stay for the evaluation as she had already arrived for the appointment.”
She thought it was strange when Dr. Cox asked her about her sexual history as the medical assistant left the room, but he did not document the conversation or record it in the patient’s medical record.
The examination took an even more awkward turn, the patient said, when the medical assistant returned and Dr. Cox proceeded with the pelvic exam and said he “couldn’t feel her uterus because her bladder was full.”
The patient alleged that Dr. Cox, who began his practice in 1979, then attempted to “rectally examine her uterus without first warning her.”
She then reported that Dr. Cox told her to empty her bladder and leave the exam room, but she was so disturbed that she went to the restroom and “called her sister for a ride, refused further tests and left the office.”
She filed a formal complaint against Dr. Cox with the LAPD the next day.
The California Medical Board notes that the investigation has been completed, but no criminal charges have been filed against Dr. Cox.
However, in light of this incident and the 2021 complaint, the Medical Board of California has decided to take disciplinary action against Mr. Cox.

In light of his firing, his attorney, Peter Osinoff, told the newspaper Independent if a hearing had taken place, [Mr Cox would not have lost his license, or been disciplined severely.’
He highlighted that Dr Cox had ‘never been the subject of any prior disciplinary action during his lengthy career as a physician’ and he denied that Dr Cox had been inappropriate with his religious views or attempted a rectal examination without consent.
Mr Osinoff concluded: ‘Rather than proceed to a costly hearing, Dr Cox decided to surrender his license, as he had closed his office and had been planning to retire from the practice of medicine for some time.’
