An expert believes they’ve discovered the exact science behind an ideal night out and there’s a strict timetable attached to it.

The formula for the ‘perfect night at home’ involves getting home at 5.30pm, having plentiful snacks and getting your feet up no later than 6.42pm, a poll has found.

A survey of 2,000 adults showed that 55% of adults put on something more comfortable as their first step.

But for others, a dip in the bath is the best way to start the evening.

The ideal amount of time for this is just 19 minutes, so you can prepare for a fun evening.

However, it’s not just taking a bath that makes this work.

Creating the right atmosphere with candles and relaxing music is an essential part of the formula for 29% of respondents.

While 13% of adults look forward to spending time playing a video game in the evening, the majority enjoy the fact that they have no plans.

74% of respondents admitted that they actively look forward to having ‘nothing to do’.

This research was commissioned by Timotei, a Swedish hair care company, which conducted research for a podcast.

Timotei’s series ‘A Gentle Start: The Showercast’ is designed to be enjoyed during a 10-minute shower.

Cleo Hector from the haircare brand said: “As we move from summer to the colder months, it seems many Brits want to take it easy and be kinder to themselves.

“Most are looking to boost their wellness routines this winter.”

Instead of going out and partying, 66% of Brits prefer an evening surrounded by the comforts of home.

Half of these people find it ‘quieter’ than going out, with 48% enjoying the opportunity to completely relax.

But for the majority of those who enjoy a night out, there is an element of stress.

55% looking for the perfect evening at home are desperately trying to avoid uninvited visitors.

Perhaps even more shocking to some, 65% of Brits will actively cancel plans to have some time for myself.

And while 45% would choose to spend the perfect evening with family, 24% would choose to be home alone – and 9% just want to be with their pets.

This desire for self-care and self-preservation increases in over a quarter of Brits as soon as the clock goes back.

While 15% more are practicing gentle living as we enter the colder winter months – a wellbeing trend to cope with modern pressures of being kind, calm and gentle with yourself.

Cleo Hector from Timotei added: “Taking a bath or shower is one of life’s simple pleasures.

“And with our new podcast, you can relax and learn about gentle living from inspiring women like Laura Whitmore and Martine McCutcheon.”
