Fox Corp. On Monday, revealed new details about the streaming service, including the fact that it would debut this fall and be called Fox One.
The announcement came first at the company’s company, an annual pitch to seduce advertisers with a series of upcoming shows. Lachlan Murdoch, Chief Executive of the company and son of the founder of Fox Corp., Rupert Murdoch, has looked at the service on a quarterly call. The name Fox One, he said, was a reference to the combined handle of the TV programs of the company, cable channels and broadcast network, including National Football League matches.
“Whether it is about the Super Bowl, the election cycle or the preceding, our company is at its best if we work together as one,” said Mr. Murdoch.
Murdoch did not say how many Fox viewers would charge, just that it would be no less than what the cable subscribers pay.
In contrast to Disney of Warner Bros. Discovery, who have put paid streaming services in the center of their company, has FOX Corp. so far adopted a more piece by piece. The company, the owner of the FOX News Cable Channel and the Fox Broadcasting Network, manages the Fox Nation Streaming Service and Tubi, a free advertising support service with TV programs and films.
The Fox Nation Streaming Service will continue to exist as a stand-alone product within FOX Corporation, but Fox One subscribers will be able to bundle their subscriptions with Fox Nation. Mr Murdoch also said that Fox had been approached by operators from other streaming services about offering a bundled subscription, although he did not identify them.
Fox recently announced plans team Up with Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery on a sports -oriented streaming service called Venu. That service was cancelled Before it got off the ground in the midst of legal challenges.
Just like Venu, Fox One is intended to exist in addition to the lucrative traditional TV activities of the company. In his comments, Mr Murdoch said that the service was aimed at the “wireless” market, referring to viewers who do not have a pay TV subscription. Traditional cable customers that already have access to FOX channels can get FOX for free.
“It would be a failure if we attract more connected subscribers,” Mr. Murdoch said and added: “We don’t want to lose a traditional cable subscriber to Fox One.”
