From natural shine to a ‘no make-up’ look – we test three blushlighters
Normally I’m all for hybrid beauty products, but there’s one new one I’m skeptical about: blushlighter.
The combination of blusher and highlighter sounds like a recipe for disaster.
So this week I put three of them to the test.
Budget
Sculpted by Aimee Liquid Lights Blush, £18 for 7ml, sculptedbyaimee.co.uk: This was the first of the three I tried, so I had no idea what to expect.
But I’m familiar with liquid and cream blushes, so I used the same approach as that, and it worked perfectly.
A little goes a long way, but it’s not so intensely pigmented that you’ll look clownish if you overdo it.
The shimmer looks natural, so perfect for everyday use – although I would like more shades.
Middle class
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush, £26 for 2.8g, spacenk.com: When I tasted this on my hand I thought there was no way I would like it on my face.
It is extremely glittery and when I first applied it to my cheeks I wasn’t sure if I would ever reach for it again.
But by the end of the day it looked much more natural and retained the pink tint – which isn’t always the case.
Now I’ve mastered the application – less is more, and keep blending even when you think you can’t blend anymore – it’s one I’ll definitely use for special occasions and when I think my photo is being taken.
But for daily use it is too shiny for me.
Luxury
Dior Forever Glow Maximizer, £36 for 11ml, boots.com: I had mixed feelings about this and came back to it almost a dozen times to gather my thoughts.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work well with my foundation, so I have to be very careful with how I apply it – and generally use my fingers rather than a brush.
It’s buildable, so you can adjust the color, as there isn’t much pigment with just one coat, but that means it’s virtually impossible to apply too much.
If you don’t normally wear blush but want a healthy glow, or you like the “no makeup” look, you’ll really like this, but I prefer more color.
Choice of the week
I bought my first Christmas present this week – and The Cult Bag of Tricks from Cult Beauty, £115 but worth £460, is one of the best beauty gifts I’ve seen yet.
With a full-size Charlotte Tilbury mascara, Medik8 moisturizer and U Beauty Lip balm in the 16-product selection, which also includes Sol De Janeiro, Slip, Caudalie and Summer Fridays, you can’t go wrong.
