FOR one gardening guru, it seemed there was no better time than now to get her garden ready for spring.
She certainly got a head start on keeping her garden healthy and weed-free.
“This is the best thing you can do to prepare your garden for 2024,” says Emma (@emmasallotmentdiaries).
According to her, great gardens start with this: great soil.
“If you haven’t mulched your beds yet, now is a good time to do it,” she said.
Emma recommended using cardboard for her first base as she showed off her large backyard.
It was no wonder she wanted to start her spring greens early.
“Not only does it suppress weeds, it also retains water and adds great structure to your beds,” she said.
Using cardboard means you don’t have to buy anything new – and she wasn’t done yet.
She watered the cardboard with a hose to make everything break down faster and at the same time attracted a very helpful creature.
“It also attracts all the worms. I don’t know why worms like cardboard, but they really do, and they are great for your soil,” she said.
She then moved on to her final and final stage.
She added a large bag of compost, but she also said natural materials such as leaves, wood chips or straw would suffice.
After getting into the soil with some gloves on, her entire bed was evenly spread with the compost.
“Your garden should be ready for planting in the spring,” she said.
Excited about her future greenery, Emma happily threw some compost into the air.
Her fans also felt her method of planning ahead and appreciated her best tip.
“Now I know what to do with all the pizza boxes I have,” said one follower.
“Good advice!” said another viewer.
