Gemini now lets you use custom gems on your smartphones
The Gemini app for iOS and Android is getting artificial intelligence (AI) agents called Gems. These custom chatbots were first released to users on the web version of Gemini in August. The company is now rolling them out to the mobile app as well, allowing users to create and use chatbots designed for specific purposes. In addition to adding Gems, Google also redesigned the homepage on both the web and mobile versions of Gemini.
Gemini app gets gemstones
Gadgets 360 staff spotted that Gems are now available in the Gemini app on Android. The addition of the feature is also said to change the look and feel of the app slightly. Instead of the Recent section where users can see prompt suggestions and recently used prompts, the area shows the title Chat & Gemstones.
The screenshots of the new feature also show how it will appear in the app. To access Gems, users will need to click on their profile icon, which is located at the top right of the screen. A new Gemstone Manager option is visible below the Extensions option.
Clicking on it will reveal three tabs: All, Your Gems, and By Google. The second option shows the custom AI agents created by the user, while the third option shows the standard Gems created by the tech giant. These include Learning coach, Brainstormer, Career guide, Writing editor, and Coding partner.
Gems can be thought of as the miniature version of Gemini. It contains a limited dataset that is relevant to the purpose. Once created, Gems can process prompts faster and with higher accuracy than the general chatbot. It is worth noting that Gems are only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers.
In addition to adding the AI agents to the mobile app, Google is also in the process of redesigning Gemini’s homepage on both the app version and the web client. In the existing version, opening the interface shows a greeting message and the text “How can I help you today?” in large font. This is followed by several prompt suggestions arranged in a carousel.
However, in the new version of the homepage, only the text “How can I help you?” is added in smaller fonts. The interface is minimalistic and does not overwhelm the user with information. The suggested prompts and the option for a new chat are placed in a chat icon at the top left.
