George RR Martin has apparently announced an Elden Ring movie or TV series

FromSoftware’s acclaimed action-RPG Elden Ring is back in the spotlight following the release of its first and last major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. Packed with new content and featuring plenty of difficult boss battles, the DLC has brought players back to the game. The renewed focus on Elden Ring following the critical and commercial success of the new expansion has sparked talks of a film or TV adaptation. Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki reportedly discussed existing “interest” in an Elden Ring adaptation following the release of Shadow of the Erdtree. Now, fantasy author George R. R. Martin, who helped build the world of Elden Ring, has floated the possibility of a movie or TV show based on the game.

Elden Ring adaptation announced

In a blog post Published on June 29, the author hinted at an Elden Ring film adaptation by enthusiastically feigning ignorance about a potential project. “Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or TV series based on ELDEN RING… I have nothing to say about it,” Martin said. “Not a word, no, nothing at all, I don’t know anything about it, you never heard a peep from me, mom mom mom. What rumor?” he added.

Martin’s timid suggestions follow the admission from FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki that he wouldn’t mind seeing the game adapted for another medium. In a interview In a statement published in The Guardian after the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Miyazaki had said: “I see no reason to reject another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a film for example.

“But I don’t think I, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or the ability to produce something in another medium. So that’s where a really strong partner would come into play. We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement around whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s definitely interest,” he added.

Nebula Award for Elden Ring

Martin, whose epic fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire were adapted by HBO into Game of Thrones, helped FromSoftware write the world and lore of Elden Ring. In his blog, he also thanked the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association for presenting Elden Ring with its Nebula Award for Game Writing last year. “I did the worldbuilding for that project; Hidetaka Miyazaka [sic] and his team did the rest. We were both honored with trophies,” the writer said in his blog post.

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion was released on June 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Since launch, it has been the highest-rated DLC on Metacritic, though the game has received criticism from players for its high difficulty.
