‘Ghosh destroyed evidence, ex-OC part of cover-up’ | India News – Times of India
KOLKATA: Former RG Kar Faculty of Medicine first name Sandip Ghosh and former head of Tala police station Abhijit Mandal were remanded in custody for three days on Sunday CBI custody (until September 17) for involvement in a “larger conspiracy” and for “destruction of evidence” relating to the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the hospital on August 9, it was reported.
Mandal was arrested by the CBI on Saturday night and Ghosh, already in the agency’s custody for alleged financial irregularities, was remanded in custody for crimes related to the rape and murder case. The CBI sought Mandal’s remand and told a special court that the officer was not an accused in the case but was suspected of tampering with evidence and being involved in a “nexus or conspiracy”. Ghosh is suspected of destroying evidence, the agency said. The two reportedly spoke to each other several times on August 9.
CBI also raised questions about the initial police handling of the case. “It was a case of sexual abuse and Mandal should have handled it more carefully,” said CBI lawyer Deepak Poria.
