Gina Rinehart says Australia should ‘watch and learn’ from Donald Trump after his landslide election victory

Gina Rinehart has said Australia will take cues from the United States after Donald Trump’s landslide victory over Kamala Harris.

The billionaire spoke for the first time after being photographed with the Republican elite at Trump’s election party, held this week at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Australia’s richest person said she hoped her own country would “watch and learn” from the incoming 47th president after his landslide victory on Wednesday.

In particular, the mining magnate hopes Australia will follow the US lead on taxes, reduce government regulation and improve living standards.

‘Even after billions in spending by Democrats, the US has chosen with full force to reject whatever is left. Socialism always harms those who are less fortunate,” she told the newspaper Sydney Morning Herald.

‘[Mr Trump] stood armed with conviction, tremendous courage, incredible tireless effort and true love for the USA and the American people.

“I really hope Australia watches and learns as they see that cutting government taxes, cutting taxes and reducing government waste lifts people up and raises living standards.”

Her words of praise for the president come days after she was pictured with his daughter Tiffany Trump at a purple-lit election party at Mar-a-Lago.

Ms. Rinehart wore a wide-brimmed farmer’s hat and proudly held a sign on her shoulders with Trump’s pro-mining mantra: “drill, baby drill.”

She sat at a table with former Liberal Party vice-president Teena McQueen and leader of the conservative Reform UK party Nigel Farage.

Ms. Rinehart previously said she hoped Trump would win in the election.

“I’m still nervous, but I’m really hoping for a Trump victory,” she said The Australian last week.

She warned that if Kamala Harris won the election, she would be “more socialist and evil than (Joe) Biden.”

Trump has signaled plans to reduce the US’s dependence on income taxes – and make up the shortfall with increasing tariffs.

He proposes a 60 percent tariff on all Chinese goods, and a 10 percent tariff on all US imports worth $3 trillion.
