A 16-year-old girl was deadly shot on Thursday afternoon near a South Bronx school building, the police said.

Officers who answered a call of 911 arrived around 5 p.m. in Home Street and Tinton Avenue in the Morrisania section to find the girl with a shot wound, the police said.

The girl was brought to the Lincoln hospital in critical condition and was later declared dead, the police said. Her name was not released pending the notification of her family.

The fatal shooting took place outside of a home street building that houses three schools: De Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School, Bronx Latin and Bronx College and Career Preparatory High School.

It was unclear whether the girl attended one of the three who have a combined registration of around 1,400 students. The Charter School and Bronx Latin run from the sixth to the 12th degrees.

Representatives of the Charter School did not immediately respond to requests for comments, nor representatives of the Department of Education of the city. Mayor Eric Adams intended to tackle the shooting at a press conference near the school building on Monday evening.
