NAGPUR: Three youths girlsincluding two accused of murder, made a daring attempt escape of a government shelter at home in Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh on Friday and drove 250 km on a stolen scooter before he was intercepted by Police Saturday in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
They escaped from the shelter after triggering a false fire alarm and locking the guards in a bathroom where they had put oil on the floor to make sure they would not slip. After locking the guards in the bathroom, they fled with a scooter, a bag and two mobile phones. One of them went to her boyfriend’s house and took some money and a mobile phone from him.
Riding the stolen scooter without number plate, the minors crossed the state border after a night ride. Addicted to alcohol, they stopped at a roadside dhaba to drink alcohol before resuming their journey via Deori in Gondia and crossed Bhandara to reach Nagpur, police said.
When they were stopped at Wardhaman Nagar Chowk in Nagpur for traffic violations, including not wearing helmets, they tried to bribe traffic cops. However, head constable Vaishali Durugkar and constable Pooja Puri became suspicious.
Puri and Durugkar noticed inconsistencies in the girls’ statements. They took them to the Lakadganj traffic office and handed them over to Superintendent Santosh Vairagade. During separate interrogations, the girls confessed.
