Good news, gamers: AMD could soon launch a cheap Radeon GPU that could shake up the budget card market
Rumors about AMD’s Radeon GRE graphics cards are nothing new, but the latest rumors in technology could reveal something big for the upcoming CES 2025 event.
According to the last leak from well-known hardware leaker Hoang Anh Phu (reported by PCGamesN), we could see an AMD Radeon RX 7650 GRE graphics card unveiled at next year’s tech show. The post leak in question mentions the model name of the card with the hashtag #CES2025.
Judging from previous RX 7000 series cards, the model name of the RX 7650 GRE could mean that it is among the AMD Radeon RX 7700XT and the AMD Radeon RX 7600XT in terms of performance. The former competes with the Nvidia RTX4070 and tends to sell for $449, while the latter competes with the RTX4060 and usually costs $329.
Most likely, the RX 7650 GRE will retail for between $300 and $400 when it is eventually confirmed. This would put it above the RadeonRX7600 – easily the best cheap graphics card since the RTX3060 – in terms of price, but the trade-off would be assuming superior performance and VRAM.
The AMD RX 7650 GRE and other 2025 launches could make for a great PC gaming year
A good point can be made that the GRE branding is usually given to cards that are released exclusively or first in China. However, with the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE If we go global after a China exclusive launch and then turn the mid-range card market on its head, the chances of seeing the global release of the 7650 GRE (if this card actually exists) would be pretty solid.
There’s also the chance that Team Red plans to use the GRE label for new variants of its graphics cards, which ties into the part of the leak that this particular card will debut at a Western tech show and not a Chinese one. If this turns out to be true, it would probably be the last RDNA 3 cards before RDNA 4 makes its debut.
Overall, it seems like a good plan for gamers to wait until at least January 2025 before investing in a new graphics card, since not only is this rumor making the rounds, but also the fact that Team Red is going to launch soon. RDNA 4 cards next year. Team Green’s next-generation 5000 series cards are also expected to release in January, giving gamers even more options.
