Google Chrome introduces new performance monitoring features
Google Chrome has introduced new features for better control over the desktop resources used by the web browser. These are intended to provide a more efficient browsing experience. The Memory Saver feature now has three new modes, each adjusting the browser’s performance differently based on browsing behavior and system needs. It also introduces a new performance detection tool that is claimed to identify the potential issues with Chrome and offer suggestions to the user.
New performance checks in Google Chrome
In a blog afterGoogle highlighted the introduction of the Performance Detection tool in Chrome. As the name suggests, it can provide solutions based on the problems it detects, such as the browser slowing down due to extra resources being used. The user is then notified via a ‘Performance Issue Alert’, along with a ‘Fix Now’ option that automatically fixes the issues. The performance detection tool can be disabled in Chrome settings if users want to have manual control over performance settings.
Changes have also been made to the Memory Saver feature, which was first introduced in 2022 and can personalize browser performance based on usage. After the update, users can choose from three different modes: Moderate, Balanced and Maximum. Medium mode closes tabs based on system requirements. When you use maximum mode, Chrome tabs will close as soon as you stop using them.
On the other hand, Balanced mode is offered as a best-of-both-world solution that analyzes both the system needs and the user’s browsing habits.
Google has also rolled out more options for personalizing performance checks. Users can now specify which websites should always remain active, toggle the visual indicators for inactive tabs and memory usage in tab hover cards. These additions are part of the October 2024 update for Google Chrome.
