Google may introduce a faster way to activate incognito mode on Android
Google is testing a new shortcut option for incognito mode on its search app that will give users quick access to the feature, according to a report. The feature was discovered in a beta version of the Google app for Android smartphones, alongside another addition that makes labels disappear from the bottom banner. The development comes just a week after it was reported that the search engine may stop offering continuously scrolling search results on mobile and desktop platforms.
Google’s new Incognito Mode shortcut
Android Authority spotted a new shortcut that opens the Incognito tab in the Google app for Android, on version 15.26.34.29.arm64. The latest beta build is available for download for testers who have opted in to receive beta updates through the Google Play Developer Program.
Tapping the search box will reportedly bring up a new Chrome incognito option above the keyboard. This could allow users to quickly switch to incognito mode, instead of the current workaround: tapping the profile picture option in the top-right corner of the screen, then selecting the Incognito tab under the account.
The update also reportedly brings an improved look to the Home tab in the Google app. Labels that previously appeared, such as At home, Search Query And Stored are now hidden, with only the icons visible, making the interface look simpler.
While these options are reportedly available in the latest beta update to the Google app, Gadgets 360 staff were unable to use them, suggesting that this is a server-side change.
Circle to search in Google app to get an update
The Google app will also reportedly gain support for Circle to Search, the visual search feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI). It was spotted in a beta version of the Google app and can allow users to scan QR codes or barcodes visible on the screen.
Meanwhile, a chip could also be visible next to the code that shows the URL of the destination website, the report said. This option would be accessible by long-pressing the Home button, and will likely roll out to users on the Stable channel at a later date.
