Google Meet wants you to keep your video calls outside the office
Google has unveiled a slew of new tools and features aimed at taking its video conferencing tool out of the office environment and into your everyday life.
The company has unveiled new additions to its Google Meet mobile app for iOS and Android, making it not just a tool for businesses, but also a great way to chat with friends and family.
The changes include easier access to backgrounds, filters, effects and emoji, along with more advanced features like live captions.
Google Meet on mobile gets a boost
Users will also get a refreshed design and look for Google Meet on mobile, which the company says means they can make and receive video calls much faster than before.
The new layout offers options to quickly start or schedule a Google Meet call, and also includes call controls that closely resemble those found in business calls. This includes the chat function, which lets you stay in touch with your contacts during a call, allowing you to share links and post comments without disrupting the flow of the call.
The new audio mode makes it much easier to have conversations while on the move. The larger call control buttons are ideal for when you’re on the go or walking.
Personalization and customization have become increasingly important for users everywhere, and Google Meet aims to make that a lot easier. Whether it’s a filter, virtual background, or even adding accessories like a hat or scarf, the platform allows users to combine and stack multiple effects so you always look your best.
Emoji reactions can now be sent, allowing users to quickly respond to what is being said during the conversation without disrupting the conversation. You can choose from a thumbs up, a smiley face or a celebratory reaction.
“Today, we’re starting to roll out an updated video calling experience in Google Meet, with a new look and features that help you stay even more connected with everyone you chat with, from friends and family to classmates and colleagues,” wrote Jennifer Shen, Product Manager, Google Meet in a blog post announce the news.
“With these updates, you can more easily access advanced features, use emoji reactions, and try out mobile mode, all while enjoying a consistent experience across video calls and scheduled meetings in Meet.”
