Google Pixel may get a new temperature monitoring feature
Google is developing a new measure to address the overheating issue in its Pixel smartphones, according to a report. The feature, dubbed “Adaptive Thermal,” was reportedly spotted during an APK teardown of the smartphone’s Device Health Services app. While smartphones today come with built-in temperature safety measures, the new feature would display a new pop-up notification and activate a temperature-measuring service when it detects that the Pixel smartphone is heating up.
Adaptive thermal technology on Pixel smartphones
In a reportAndroid Authority, in collaboration with tipster Mishaal Rahman, has revealed information about this new feature that Google is reportedly developing. Several strings related to the feature were spotted during an APK teardown of the Pixel’s Device Health Services app version 1.27.
When enabled, the smartphone would trigger a “pre-emergency” alert when the battery temperature reaches 49 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit). A notification might then appear telling the user to “cool down the phone.” It would also inform the user that they may experience “slower performance” on their Pixel.
To fix this, they should “avoid direct sunlight or close all battery-consuming apps,” according to the report. A new See care steps An option would also appear that would let users know what steps the Pixel’s operating system has taken to ensure its security. The option would also offer tips for cooling the device, such as keeping it in an open area with better airflow, closing battery-hungry apps, and avoiding use in direct sunlight.
Currently, Pixel devices, like other smartphones, have different measures to prevent overheating. When the smartphone heats up, the CPU is throttled, which compromises the performance to protect the handset. Moreover, the device can also automatically turn off various features such as the LED flash, camera, 5G connectivity and even slow down charging. These steps are there to ensure that the device does not get damaged in such situations.
The Adaptive Thermal feature will also reportedly automatically measure the temperature of the Pixel smartphone every five minutes. If it rises above 52 degrees Celsius, the device will reportedly go into an “emergency mode”. Once it crosses the 55 degrees Celsius threshold, a 30-second warning may be triggered, after which the handset may power down.
