Google TV Streamer integrates entertainment and home into a refreshed design – Video
Google just announced a new streaming device, the Google TV streamer. I’ve looked at it and it’s called Lux, but let’s talk about what it can do before Google had Chromecast and the TV streamer builds on that concept, but the device isn’t just about streaming. It also turns your TV into a control panel for your home. You can see your home security cameras in the menu bar with previews or you can blow them up to a bigger screen, you can adjust your thermostat, change the lighting in your house, and even lower your blinds. The TV can’t even tell you when your washing machine is done. Of course, because this is good, they’re going to integrate their AI Gemini into the product, like making recommendations for shows and movies based on your viewing history and stuff. But you can also ask it questions that are more subjective, like show me a movie that feels like a vacation. And of course, this is a slightly higher-end device that will cost you a bit more. It packs four khdr and Dolby Vision and atmos for higher-quality streaming. I mentioned at the beginning that the design of this device was Lux. And that’s because it looks a bit like a pod that’s meant to just sit in front of your TV and not be ugly while you’re watching, it’s going to come in two different colors, porcelain and hazelnut. Although hazelnut will only be available in the US. What I really like about this remote is that it has one customizable button instead of it being cluttered with streaming services that you may or may not be subscribed to Netflix, HBO, Max, Hulu. You can set the remote to go straight to your favorite app. One of the most useful features on TV remotes these days that I really like to see is the find remote button that allows you to press a button and your remote will give you a signal. So you don’t have to search endlessly for it. This device is going to cost $100, which is a little more than your average streaming device like a Roku or a stick. And it’s going to be available on September 24th and there will be a pre-order. So you can follow this story to see more details about this. Once they’re announced, my general impression of this device is that it’s expensive at $100. But if you have a smart home with multiple devices connected, this turns your TV into a control panel of sorts and that could be valuable in and of itself. This product doesn’t come out until next month, but leave a comment and let us know what you think. I’m Bella and thanks for watching.
