Google Chrome has been updated with three new artificial intelligence (AI) features designed to help users manage their tabs more effectively. The Mountain View-based tech giant announced a new feature for Chrome for iOS on Tuesday, along with two other cross-platform features. The company said the features are all powered by Google’s AI technology. The rollout comes a week after the search giant announced a new text-to-speech feature that lets users easily listen to articles and web pages.

Google Chrome updated with new AI features

In a blog postGoogle said it is improving the experience of managing multiple tabs on Chrome, which can often be a source of frustration. Over the past year, Google Chrome has received several upgrades, such as Tab Grouping and Similar Tabs, that address the problem. Now, the company is using AI to power three additional features to make the experience more seamless.

The first feature is limited to Google Chrome for iOS. The company previously rolled out Tab Groups for Android devices and Chrome for computers, with support for grouping related tabs under a unified space. The feature is now coming to iOS users, who can also choose a custom color and name for the grouped tabs, making them easier to identify. Once the tabs are grouped, users can then arrange them however they like.

Google Chrome will also allow users to save and sync their tab groups in a future update. Once synced, tab groups will be accessible across desktops and all mobile devices. This will allow users to start a project on one device and then continue without missing an important tab or worrying about remembering certain URLs. This feature is currently in development.

Users can also search for a restaurant on their phone while planning an outing. If they need a bigger screen to search, they can simply switch to a desktop and open the browser to find the tab group that has automatically synced to the device so they can resume searching. This only works if both devices are signed in to the same Google account.

Third, there’s an experimental feature that uses AI to suggest web pages for users to revisit. Google Chrome’s feature will suggest web pages based on tabs previously opened in the browser across devices. The company says this saves users the trouble of having to bookmark pages or remember URLs.

However, the company did not explain how the AI prioritizes one page over another or whether users can do anything to increase the chances of a particular page being recommended.
