Google’s Chromecast successor may have leaked
Google may be developing a successor to its Chromecast with Google TV (4K), which launched in 2020, and images of the device have now surfaced thanks to a report. The streaming device, dubbed the “Google TV Streamer,” is speculated to feature a set-top box-like form factor rather than a dongle-sized device that attaches to the back of a TV. Notably, Google reportedly began development on an Android-powered Chromecast device back in March.
Google TV Streamer Design Leak
In a report9to5Google shared images of the alleged Google TV Streamer, which hinted at its design. The device is said to have been redesigned, with Google ditching the dongle-like form factor. Until now, all Google Chromecast devices have had the same design, with the ability to be attached to the back of the TV while connected to the HDMI port.
However, the new device is said to feature a pill-shaped, slanted structure, possibly resembling a Wi-Fi router.

Google TV Streamer appears to have two cables running out the back. It is speculated that the device will be minimal in height, which could make it easier to place underneath TVs. According to the report, the TV Streamer’s remote appears to be similar to the existing model, with the D-Pad, back, and home buttons on the top half. However, the voice input button no longer appears to have the Google Assistant branding, with the company possibly opting for a generic button. The volume buttons could also be moved to the front of the remote instead of the sides.
Additionally, the report suggests that Google may drop the ‘Chromecast’ name and instead call the device ‘Google TV Streamer’.
The development confirms an earlier report that claimed Google was developing a successor to 2020’s Chromecast with Google TV (4K) device. It is said to be codenamed “YTC” and was discovered following a preview update to the Google Home app. It is said to be called “YTV” (Chromecast with Google TV) and “YTB” (Chromecast HD), along with previous versions.
