Google’s Pixel Watch 3 XL may look like this previous-generation smartwatch
The Google Pixel Watch 3 series, consisting of a standard Pixel Watch 3 and a larger Pixel Watch 3XL, is reportedly in development, and images of the larger model have now surfaced online. After launching the first Pixel Watch in 2022, Google followed it up with a major upgrade in the form of the Pixel Watch 2 last year. While it still clearly resembled the first model, the second-gen wearable featured several upgrades under the hood and was lighter thanks to a new aluminum chassis. While Google is yet to officially announce the successor to the Pixel Watch 2, the rumor mill has begun giving us some details as to what the upcoming series would look like. We initially got a first look (via a leaked render) at the Pixel Watch 3 that looked very (if not identical) to the Pixel Watch 2 that launched in India , and now we have an idea of what the larger model could look like.
Android Headlines in collaboration with tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (X: @OnLeaks) leaked images of the so-called Pixel Watch 3XL, which is reportedly larger in size but features core hardware and sensors similar to the standard 41mm Pixel Watch 3.
The Pixel Watch 3 XL appears to be nearly identical to the Pixel Watch 2 in terms of overall design in these leaked renders. It also appears that the circular display will once again have the same thick black bezel as before, retaining that pebble-like appearance. The case, band attachment mechanism, and health sensors on the back of the case also appear to be identical to what’s available on the Pixel Watch 2.
The source claims the Pixel Watch 3 XL will have a 45mm case (45mm x 45mm x 13.89mm), up from the standard 41mm case (40.79 x 40.73 x 14mm) on the Pixel Watch 2 (and the existing Pixel Watch 2). It also claims the larger watch will have a larger 1.45-inch display, up from the smaller 1.2-inch display on the Pixel Watch 3 and the currently available Pixel Watch 2.
Our best guess is that the Pixel Watch 3 XL will be larger but retain the same design and dimensions as the smaller model, just scaled up. And this should also make room for a larger battery and more sensors, according to the source. The strap system has also reportedly been tweaked for the larger model, though it looks the same in the renders. This is largely due to the XL’s larger overall size and the obvious fact that the straps won’t be interchangeable between the two models. The XL model also appears to have a buckle closure, which will be available on the handcrafted and two-tone leather straps (not sold in India).
It’s indeed nice to see Google finally expanding its smartwatch lineup with a larger model, which would ideally suit those with larger wrists. However, we urge our readers to take the above information with a grain of salt as it doesn’t come from Google. So there’s a chance that the designs shown in these leaks could be different. Google is expected to hold a launch event for its new Pixel lineup in October and we expect the new Watch models to be announced then as well.
