Got a Galaxy Watch? Only these models get Samsung’s handy new Energy Score upgrade
If you followed all of the announcements from Samsung Galaxy Unpacked today, you’ve probably already heard about the new AI-powered Energy Score coming to the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch 7 – and apparently only to some older Galaxy Watch models.
For those who have just heard of Energy Score, as the name suggests, it’s a bit like a battery charge rating for your body. In addition to the rating itself, you also get some useful insights into why your energy levels are the way they are.
According to Samsung, the feature “increases your awareness of how your health affects your daily life, so you can use recommendations based on your current physical condition to direct your daily efforts toward improvements.”
That sounds good to us. It uses AI algorithms to crunch data from four categories: Sleep, Activity, Heart Rate While Sleeping, and Heart Rate Variability While Sleeping. You may also see personalized recommendations on how to boost your energy score while you’re using your Samsung wearable.
Compatibility issues
In addition to the Galaxy Ring, Energy Score will be available on Samsung’s newest watches, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. If you’re wearing an older model on your wrist, however, you might be out of luck.
The fine print says you’ll need a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or later to get your Energy Score. That wearable launched in 2021, so if you have something older, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, for example, you won’t be able to see these insights and it might be time to think about upgrading.
You can also get by with the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. The recently launched Samsung Galaxy Watch FE should also be fine.
There are a few other requirements to participate in Energy Score that you should keep in mind: you’ll need a Samsung smartphone with Galaxy AI capabilities (currently, that’s the Galaxy S22 and newer), the Samsung Health app, and a Samsung account.
