New Delhi: The government has officially declared this Hizb-Ut-Tahrir (Hut), a global pan-Islamic organization that was founded in Jerusalem in 1953 as a terrorist group. The Union Home Ministry has issued a notice stating that HuT aims to establish an Islamic state and caliphate worldwide, including in India, through jihad and terrorist activities.
The ministry accused HuT of radicalizing vulnerable young people and encouraging them to join terrorist organizations Such as ISIS, and raising money for terror activities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and emphasized its commitment to securing the nation by dealing strongly with terror forces. The agency highlighted HuT’s involvement in several terrorist acts, including radicalizing youth, raising funds for terror activities and posing a serious threat to India’s national security and sovereignty.

“The gang is involved in several acts of terror, including radicalizing gullible youth to join terrorist organizations and raise funds for terror activities, which poses a serious threat to national security and sovereignty of India. The Modi government is determined to secure Bharat by fighting the forces of terror with an iron fist,” the Home Minister’s office said.
According to the notice, HuT is promoting terrorism through social media platforms, secure apps and by holding ‘Dawah’ gatherings to encourage susceptible youth to participate in acts of terror. The organization’s aim to establish an Islamic state and caliphate worldwide, including in India, by overthrowing democratically elected governments through jihad and terrorist activities, is considered a serious threat to the democratic system and internal security of the country.
The ban on HuT will apply to all its manifestations and front organizations under the Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a key suspect in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir case linked to spreading discontent and secessionism by promoting the anti-India group’s ideology. The NIA has alleged that the arrested individuals were actively involved in propagating secessionism and seeking military assistance from Pakistan to liberate Kashmir, with the ulterior motive of establishing Khilafat by overthrowing the Indian government through violent Jihad.
Founded in 1953, HuT is an international pan-Islamic group with the long-term goal of establishing a caliphate government under Islamic law. The group is headquartered in Lebanon and operates in at least 30 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia. HuT has a history of praising and celebrating attacks on Israel and the Jews. Several countries, including Germany, Egypt, Britain and several Central Asian and Arab countries, have already banned HuT for their subversive activities.
