Government study: Rural households' out-of-pocket expenditure on hospitalization Rs 4,129/yr, urban Rs 5,290
NEW DELHI: The average co-payment medical expenses per household admitted to hospital in the last 365 days in rural and urban areas is estimated at Rs 4,129 and Rs 5,290, the results of a government survey showed on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Statistics’ comprehensive annual modular survey (July 2022-June 2023) found that the average out-of-pocket medical expenditure per household for out-of-hospital treatment during the last 30 days in rural and urban areas is Rs 539 and Rs 606, respectively. .

The study also found that about 96.9% of people in the age group of 15 to 24 years could read and write simple statements and perform simple arithmetic calculations. In the same age group, this figure was approximately 97.8% for men and 95.9% for women
It also showed that 23.3% of people aged 15 to 24 were not in education, employment or training at the date of the survey, compared to 25.6% in the 15 to 29 group. The survey also found that 95.1% of households had a telephone or mobile connection, while 9.9% had computers. About 95.7% of people in the age group of 15 to 24 years in rural areas can use mobile phones, while in urban areas it was 97%.
