Govt extends ban on Gurpatwant Pannun’s Sikhs for Justice for 5 years | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Central government on tuesday the to prohibit on Gurpatwant Pannunpro-Khalistani terrorist group Sikhs for Justice Through five years.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has again declared the organization an illegal organization for the next five years, starting on July 10, 2024.
The organisation was banned in 2019 after it was found to be involved in “anti-national and subversive activities in Punjab” and other places.
“SFJ maintains close contacts with militant organisations and activists and supports violent forms of extremism and militancy in Punjab and elsewhere with a view to creating a sovereign Khalistan out of the Union Territory of India,” the Ministry of Home Affairs had said in a press release in 2019.
The ministry had also said that the terror group “encourages and supports activities for secession of any part of the Indian territory from the Union of India and supports separatist groups fighting for this purpose in India and elsewhere by engaging in activities and expressions aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.”
