‘Great idea’, people cry as mum shares personalised £1 gift for teachers
It’s already the school holidays for many families in the UK, but one mum shared the “brilliant” £1 gift with you.
According to the clever mom, all you have to do is buy a bar of Galaxy or another tasty chocolate and then let your kids personalize the outside with a sweet message.
Go to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UKshe told how she had collected seven bars for £7 for her children’s teachers.
The mother then helped each child decorate each piece with a colorful design and a message.
She spent barely more than a tenner, but people were impressed by the well thought-out idea.
She wrote: ‘Large Galaxy bars for £1 each at B&M.
“Cut a piece of paper to size and let the children decorate it however they want for each teacher.
“Folded and glued.
“Personal thank you gift for the teacher and total cost £7.”
She explained that she had left the wrapper on, but placed the paper on top so that the pencils and pens were visible.
The mother added: “A5 paper, exactly the size of a label, or folded to A4 size.”
Her post received more than 1,000 likes and many people were impressed.
One of them said: “This is a really good idea!! I will definitely keep this in mind for next one year!”
Another added: “I’m doing this next year!!!”
A third commented: “From a teacher – great idea! I cherish all the little works of art the children make too.”
It can be difficult to know what teachers really want to learn at the end of the school year.
Luckily, a former teacher has made the decision a lot easier: he revealed which gifts teachers don’t want to receive.
Sidnie, a former kindergarten teacher from the US, posted on social media about the gifts teachers can’t stand, leaving many people completely baffled.
Sidnie confirmed that she and many of her teacher friends don’t want to receive candles, but they also can’t stand teachers’ mugs.
Instead, she revealed what parents should give instead — and it might surprise you.
Sidnie posted her short clip online with the caption: ‘As a mother and former kindergarten teacher…no more sulking please.’
Need to buy a gift for a teacher?
IF you’re wondering whether to get your child’s teacher an end of year gift, look no further…
With the summer holidays fast approaching, Sarah Bull, Senior Digital Writer at Fabulous and mother of two, explains whether you should feel obliged to buy your children’s teachers a gift to celebrate the end of the school year.
Sarah said: “It can be quite a challenge to keep the children entertained during the six weeks they are out of school.
But before the school year is over, parents across the country are also trying to budget for gifts for their children’s teachers.
“When you have to buy in teachers, teaching assistants, special educational needs specialists and other beloved staff members, it can be an expensive proposition.
“And while many schools actively discourage parents from spending their money on end-of-year gifts for teachers, I consider it an obligation.
“I know how difficult my children can be at home and their teachers have to watch them most of the day. Don’t they deserve some appreciation?
“I also don’t want my children to feel left out when their friends arrive at school with presents for their teachers.
“While some parents go all out with gifts, with alcohol and flowers being popular choices, I will do my best to stick to the £5 for each of the four staff members I buy something for.
“And with some fantastic options in stores like Poundland, Home Bargains and B&M, it should be easy for me to stay within my budget.”
She then said, “If you’re planning on giving your kids’ teachers an end-of-year gift, fine, go ahead and do it.”
Sidnie advised, “But don’t give them mugs. Don’t give them Bath and Body Works lotions and candles.
“They don’t want any clutter and they have a lot of mugs.”
Sidnie continued, “What they do want is cash and gift cards – Target gift cards, coffee gift cards, cash – please do that.
“Even a handwritten note is better than a mess.”
Sidnie later wrote, “If you know them well and you know they like something specific, that’s great! But if you don’t know them, cash and gift cards are best.”
