When will we hear more about Grand Theft Auto 6?
The last we heard about GTA 6 was in the form of the game’s first proper trailer late last year. That was followed by news that the game is targeting a fall 2025 release date. As for future announcements, we’ll likely have to wait even further into 2024 for more details. For now, there’s no official word from Rockstar Games.
GTA 6 is easily one of the most anticipated games of all time, with its predecessor still dominating the sales charts. Thankfully, we now know quite a bit about the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, including where it’s set, and that it’s currently scheduled for release next year.
As for upcoming games, GTA 6 looks set to offer perhaps the most detailed open world we’ve seen yet, if Rockstar Games can continue the success of Grand Theft Auto 5that is. We now know that this time we are returning to Vice City, a fact that means GTA 6‘s story missions could reference some very iconic movies. One thing is for sure, the game already looks very impressive graphically.

GTA 6 release window and platforms
GTA 6 will be released in fall 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PS5. This was revealed in the game’s first trailer, and was later fleshed out in a recent financial report. Aside from this new window, we don’t have any other details on when the game will be released. We’ll have to wait for more information. As for a GTA 6 PC release, an ex-Rockstar developer has explained why GTA 6 won’t be coming to PC at launch: ‘This stuff is very complicated’

GTA 6 was announced on February 4, 2022 via the Tweet embedded above. Ultimately, this was just confirmation that Rockstar was actually working on a game. GTA 6and no other details were given other than the fact that the game was in active development.
GTA 6 Trailer
The GTA 6 trailer was revealed by Rockstar on December 4, 2023, after it leaked online. The trailer was originally set to release the following day, but timelines were pushed back. You can watch it above, in all its sun-drenched glory. It runs for 91 seconds and introduces us to Lucia, one of GTA 6’s main characters. You also get some gorgeous shots of Vice City beaches, bars, and even an alligator
What song is used in the GTA 6 trailer?
Now that we have the first GTA 6 trailer, we can dig a little deeper into what it all means. The song playing along with it is Tom Petty’s Love is a Long Road. This gives a taste of the themes of the game, which is clearly focused on a couple in love on the run. Heartbreak and tragedy could be on the cards here, as well as a little romance in between all the gunplay.
GTA 6 is set in Vice City
We now know that GTA 6 is set in the state of Leonidas, which encompasses Vice City and beyond. In a news post released shortly after the trailer, Rockstar describes the area as “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.” We see a fair amount of shots of Vice City in the debut trailer, but it’s unclear if any other areas will be included at launch.
a Bloomberg report published in 2022 claims that GTA 6‘s map was much larger to begin with, with areas based on both North and South America. This was apparently scaled back during development, with Rockstar Games shifting the focus to Vice City and the surrounding areas. These are likely the swamps and bridges we see in the trailer, loosely based on the Florida Keys.
While this smaller launch card may sound disappointing at first, it’s worth diving into other parts of the aforementioned report. In particular, the fact that GTA 6The map may not remain static after launch. Apparently, Rockstar plans to update the map with more cities and interior locations after release, mainly to give developers more breathing room and reduce overtime while GTA 6 is being worked on. According to Bloomberg, new missions and new map areas will be added “regularly.”
GTA 6 Story and Playable Characters
Rockstar Games has revealed the first trailer for GTA 6 on December 4, 2023. In it we meet Lucia, one of the main characters of GTA 6According to leaked gameplay that surfaced online in early 2023, GTA 6 could feature two playable protagonists. This is supported by what is seen in the trailer, with Lucia and her partner, currently unnamed, pulling off heists together.
As for the story, GTA 6 seems to follow the couple as they try to pull off a big hit. We also know that it will be set in and around Vice City, and that Lucia was imprisoned at one point. We’ll have to wait to hear more about whether GTA 6 players will indeed be able to control Lucia and her partner, but for now we know a lot more about Lucia than the nameless man shown in the trailer. Considering that they both appear on the game’s main title card, it’s a good bet that there will indeed be two playable characters.

Nearly seven months after its launch, the GTA 6 announcement trailer has reached 200 million views on YouTube. It’s clear that gamers are clamoring for more info about the upcoming game, so hopefully we’ll hear more soon.
GTA 6 has been described as one of the most important games in history
In an interview with GI.biz (via IGN), industry analyst Mat Piscatella said that GTA 6 will be an extremely important release, not just for Rockstar, but for the industry as a whole: “There’s probably never been anything this big released in the industry before, so no pressure.”

Finally, Rockstar Games has revealed the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 622 months after the developer officially announced the game’s development – and remarkably a day earlier than its release date.
Rockstar addresses GTA 6 leak
Rockstar Games has formally confirmed that the GTA 6 leak that occurred in September 2022 was real. Release a statement via Twitterthe team noted that this contained “early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.” While they did not comment on specific details spotted in the leak, the team said that it was “extremely disappointed that details about our next game have been shared in this manner.”
Importantly, Rockstar indicated in its statement that the leak would not cause any delays. It stated that “we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services, nor will this have any long-term impact on the development of our ongoing projects.” An official update for this next game was promised “when it is ready.”
